Airbnb Open LA Event Sign-Ups

We’ve been working hard to create a fantastic event filled with exceptional speakers, helpful workshops, and one-of-a kind activities. Now, it's time for you to personalize your Airbnb Open experience!

On Thursday Nov 17th, you'll experience LA by day through an Open Houses or Neighborhood Exploration event. We’ll take you on a tour of captivating LA homes, venues, and neighborhoods led by expert local hosts and guides. After our program of talks and workshops on Friday Nov 18th, you'll start your weekend right with an evening of fine dining. We’ve teamed up with famed LA restaurateurs Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo to host community dinner parties at restaurants throughout Los Angeles, where you'll connect with fellow hosts from around the world.

Sign-ups for these activities are now open! Your event preferences will apply to everyone you ordered a ticket for. Sign-ups for these activities will close on October 25th, so please be sure to make your choices before then. Visit your Airbnb Open profile to get started and let us know which experiences, locations, and cuisines interests you the most.

I understand the format for signups and attending events and discussions has been done thus far by first come first served which is a completely fair way to do it.  We have two profile that both purchased tickets to Airbnb Open + Award Tickets (3 tickets and 1 respectively per profile).  As soon as signups for open house, neighborhood exploration, and community dinner choices went live on Monday morning here in LA, we immediately signed up for our favorites choices and created a full itinerary for the event based on those choices.

On Tuesday we started noticing that our choices that we were so dilligent about selecting first before the rush could fill everything up had been removed and changed to something we did not select.  Both Open House Neighborhood had been changed and the time slot.  This posed an issue as we created some brain date meetups to teach and learn some material with fellow Superhosts based on our free schedule for Thursday.  So we re-arranged meetings so make sure we could still go to our ideal neighborhood open house, this time from 2-4 rather than 4-6 (our first choice).  Now Wednesday morning, once again the choices we selected are not inputed and the neighborhood we really wished to visit isn't available at all without any remedy or recourse despite our best attempts to coordinate our schedule around these choices.

Can you please explain how the process works?  The selection process seems to be a bit more arbitrary than I originally imagined.  I know we selected as soon as it went live at 10am on Monday.  Any reason it would keep kicking us from our primary choices?

Would love to hear your thoughts and what else we can do at this point.

Having difficulty with sign up. Dinner cities took quite a few minutes as everytime I chose downtown - it changed to Culver City. We finally got it to hold on Downtown by choosing Mediterranean. The other cuisines kept populating to Culver City. 

Next step was Brain Dates. Got error message 4 times that my pass ID is invalid. I'm on my profile so not sure how my pass ID is invalid. 

This hasn't been fun at all. Lol. Maybe it will be easier tomorrow

@Lizzie @Clément4  Thanks -- I was able to sign up for diner and a neighborhood tour. I am not sure if this sign-up is for two. My profile shows two passes so I hope my activities are for two.

Also, I think it would be useful to have more explanation of the Brain Dates.  Can anyone offer a Brain Date? Can you sign up for more than one? Where are they held? etc.  Thanks.

it is mentioned that at least three of us have had the same problem: original choices that were changed from the system (maybe it is unavoidable if hundreds of hosts want to register at the same time). But I ask you "pretty please", as Mr Wolf in Pulp Fiction said, that you consider to make the groups bigger, which could allow some of us to register in Hollywood, as we originally wanted, and not in other areas as Los Feliz, or to create new ones.

I find absolutely normal that Airbnb is delighted if every host does his best, and I as a host would be delighted if Airbnb does his best making the groups bigger or creating new ones (because I'm sure that there are Airbnb employees would like that this situation would be solved, too).

With all due respect, of course, believe me, it's not the best experience that after waiting with tons of illusion to the next Open from the day the Open in Paris was stopped, after having to do many kilometers/miles to arrive to LA (related to that illusion), after paying the plane, the apartment, the registration fee (and even the Bélo Awards), then due maybe to technical issues our desires are not considered.

I have already written to open@airbnb.zendesk.com , let's hope that one way or another (a Blondie song :-)) the problem will be solved.

Hi there. 

I sugned up for some location choices & culinary options & id like to know where I can go to see that they have been acknowledged & I am where I'm supposed to be. Also will you be emailing a location schedule & time scale of everything to me seen as how I just bought my $340 pass. It's not clear to me where anything is located & ive no idea where I should be. Again us that something you will send because I bought my passes. Where is orientation at least on Thursday so I can at least  go there & have more clear answers. It's not very clear to me.

In terms of the locations, more details will be send out about specific addresses in early November. Just to add though, the main location for the AO16 will be around the LA's Downtown area, but then some of the other events like those taking place on 17th and 18th will be in various locations across the city. 

Until you receive more information on this, you might also find it useful to take a look at the Explore LA Airbnb Open webpage, which includes the Check-in address. You can also have a look at the schedule overview - see this post here in the AO board. 

Are you staying in a closeby neighborhood?

Just to get back to you, I'm so sorry it has taken a little longer. I have been speaking with the Open Team about this since you raised it here and I have been updating them with your feedback on what you are experiencing. They are looking into this further, but they have recommended on an individual level that you contact open@airbnb.com. This email will go through to a specific team looking after AO16 support questions, so they have a wide knowledge of the event and through this process it does make it easier for the team to keep track and to follow up on.

I really hope it will be resolved as soon as possible and I will continue to follow this further. Thanks also for your update Pablo. (I am still enjoying your quotes- more please!) 🙂

Hi again, Lizzy!

As for me, do not worry at all if you could not answer before. I understand it's high season now, and I do think that if what I asked was easy to be solved, it would already have been solved. But although I already mentioned what was my priority, I have been playing with different possibilities, and I have found out it was possible to attend a Neighbour Exploration from Hollywood, not from Hidden LA, but from Art and Culture, and at a different time, which is almost as good as my first priority, and it is good enough after some days of waiting. I have learned from the experience, and I have made screenshots, in order to prove easily that I tell the truth :-). 

Coming back to Pulp Fiction again, a film I have seen four times, I would "get pissed" (Tarantino words :-)) if there are more problems, but I think there will not be, and that Airbnb will do its best to try to solve the unavoidable problems that arise in such a big festival.

I hope to be able to enjoy there a yummy "Royale with cheese" (ah, sorry, that was in Paris, as Travolta mentioned :-)).

I will use words from other films if I write again.

Hello @Lizzie , as I reported recently there is a glitch in the sign up. I had hoped since I last reported this - that it would be fixed but as you can see, I'm still getting the error message that it's an invalid ID although of course, I am doing it within my open profile. Thank you. Kittie & Chris
