Hi Everyone,
I am excited to connect with all of you for another Q&A session.
As many of you know, I started Hosting earlier this year with my husband and co-Host, Hugh, and I have learned so much during this time. Specifically how much effort and care goes into being a great Host, and of course a Superhost! I have always been full of admiration for our Host community - my appreciation now for all that you do and are able to achieve is even deeper!
On November 8, Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky announced the 2023 Winter Release, which includes significant upgrades to the Host experience such as new tools to manage and showcase your listings and coming soon will be upgraded pricing features. As with all our releases, the product innovations have been directly influenced by the feedback we hear from our Host community.
And I am sure you won’t be surprised to hear I am now one of those voices of feedback!
So it has been such a pleasant surprise to see the new Listings tab: how easy and intuitive it is to add amenities; how much easier it is to remove old listings that were never published and of course the photo tour! If you have not yet explored the changes, I really encourage everyone to give it a try.
As I said earlier, we're always listening to your feedback and we received great questions during our last Q&A session in May. I’d love to hear from you again and I invite you to ask me any questions you might have about this most recent release
You will be able to submit questions in this thread until the end of this week - 17th November. Our Airbnb Community Managers will compile your most popular questions related to the Release, and I will respond to you by the end of November.
Thank you all for being such an important part of our community.
Warmly,
Catherine

Cordialement,
Catherine

Ciao a tutti.
A presto,
Catherine

Estoy deseando conocer vuestras dudas y opiniones.

Hartelijke groet,
Catherine

Hey @Marielle135
We are on the same wavelength.
I sincerely think that our rural destinations in particular are one of Airbnb's great strengths.
To introduce the whole world to France in all its diversity with authentic hosts like us and allow everyone to enrich themselves by getting to know travelers we would never have met without Airbnb.
However, there is currently a bone, well here we say a c... In the soup.
The current rating system with its location item often penalizes hosts despite a largely positive evaluation, often, on all other items.
It appears necessary, in the opinion of many hosts, to improve this criterion.
Today everything is done in advance so that the traveler knows where he is booking, so no errors or surprises are possible.
However, when he comes to this item, his response is often quite negative.
While we do not have, as yesterday, a way to change the location of our accommodation.
Our address remains our address.
I hope that with the help of Catherine and the members of the Community we will progress.
Thank you Marielle for being an authentic host, you make the France we love shine.
Looking forward to 😊 thank you Catherine for being there with us.
Laëtitia
Dear Catherine,
Thank you for your thoughtful and enlightening post. I must say, this update seems to be one of the most impressive ones Airbnb has rolled out, and I'm truly grateful for the immense effort put into this significant venture. The updates are remarkable, with some appearing so well-tuned to our needs that they seem as if they were crafted by hosts themselves!
With that said, I've also observed that certain updates, such as the Guest Favorite feature, have sparked diverse opinions. In light of this, I have a couple of questions:
1. How does Airbnb plan to address concerns about the Guest Favorite feature, particularly regarding its criteria and transparency? There have been discussions about inconsistencies and the ubiquity of this badge in certain areas. How will Airbnb ensure that this feature genuinely distinguishes outstanding listings?
2. In response to the varied feedback on some updates, how does Airbnb plan to integrate host and guest feedback into future developments? What processes are established for the community to actively contribute to or propose modifications to the platform?
Your efforts in fostering a platform that continuously evolves and adapts to the needs of its community are immensely appreciated. I look forward to seeing how Airbnb will continue to innovate and enhance our hosting experience.
Warm regards,
Dolly
Hi @Dolly36 ! These are surely some great and well-framed questions!! Thank you so much for sharing your lovely comment for Catherine as well as asking questions pertaining to the impact these overall updates have on our wider Host Community!
Which has been your most favourite part of this update?
Hi Bhumika,
Thank you for your comment and for engaging with us in the discussion. Regarding my favorite update, it's challenging to pick just one, given the array of fantastic improvements we've seen. Each one is remarkably intuitive, as I mentioned earlier. However, if I have to choose, the Listings tab stands out because it just makes sense to access our listings from the home screen. Another top pick for me is the amenities search feature, because it enhances our experience as we no longer have to endlessly scroll to see if an amenity is listed.
Thank you @Dolly36 for sharing such a nice and positive feedback about the updates you like😍!
Hey Dolly..... you are spot-on in your first comment. In my community, and even among the Brazilian community leaders, guest favourite has ignited hundreds of comments on the lack of transparency of the rules and terms to get the badge. Many contacted customer support who each time gave different answers, and considering the actual very low quality of customer support, there is a huge worry about the 1% quality-related customer services issues. How that will be calculated? is the customer support attendant that will put a flag when a guest call? and if the problem was solved and the guest do not inform cx? the flag will be taken out? and about those guests who do not even know how to turn a tv, and call the host for anything but then there are never real issues. If they call CX a flag would be put in the account? and the retaliatory reports? I do love the super guest badge and I think is a great step forward in the airbnb search and ranking. it would be interesting to understand little more about it.
Bonjour Catherine,

Hello Catherine,
I regret that it is not possible to modify the order of the photos when we classify them by rooms. adding an “environment” section would seem interesting to me.
I really appreciate presenting the photos by rooms, it will be much clearer for visitors, but I don't find the presentation with column scrolling very pleasant and a little confusing. Perhaps the demarcation between each room is not clear enough.
Have a nice evening.
Bonjour @Marie320 ,

English translation: Hi Catherine! Nice to meet you, I'm an Italian host. I wanted to know how helpful you think the new photo albums released by the new update would be. I also wanted to know if you think it would be nice and useful to also have a video tour of the accommodation that would allow guests to have an overview of the real space!
greetings! Niccolò
Ciao @Niccolo28 !
English translation: Hi Niccolò! It is always nice to read comments from passionate hosts with innovative ideas. What do you yourself think of the new photo tour? How useful do you find it?
About your idea, are you referring to something like a "guided virtual tour" or a video file you can upload to the platform?
Ciao @Walter !
English translation: Hi @Walter ! Also a guided tour would be really nice and useful I think ... obviously these are extra details also because the explanation of the announcement is already very clear now! I think this release is really good.
English Translation: Thank you for your reply, Niccolo28. I think you had a very interesting idea, which I am sure will be appreciated by Catherine Powell.
Grazie mille!
Thank you very much! By the way, I'll be in Los Angeles soon and I see that you're from there too @Catherine-Powell ... it would be great to meet up and exchange views about the hosting service
Hello dear Catherine,
thanks for the Q & A for hosts following the new Winter Release. Many hosts are talking, rumbling and finding a few challenges with change as always.
In my community group seems the biggest topic is Super Host Vs. Guest Favorite - so many totally love the new Guest Favorite - I think its perfect BUT, so many hosts are thinking that their efforts as Super Host are now not counting or important and that Guests don't get to search for Super Host any longer. My guess is many guests do not search for Super Host - and therefore, the lovely banner for Guest Favorite really is a special feature.
Can there be the ability so that a guest can search for Super Host and/or/ also Guest Favorite in their search for the perfect listing?
Thanks for all you do! Till next time.
many blessings, Clara
Hey Clara, .... I think your community group should think out of the box and see super host = host - guest favourite = apt.... they are 2 different stories. I am community leader in rio and I shared my thought with some long time hosts, and most of them told me neve use that filter when they travel. Probably airbnb is taking it off, because wasn't really used. Also, although I am super host, and I think the super host badge should stay, if you think about there is a discrepancy there. Guest do not know that by giving 4 they are stating "you do not deserve to be super host" and also do not know that by giving you 5 they are saying "you deserve to be super host"...... this translate that currently you become super host for different reason rather than actually being a an amazing host. Guest to not specifically rate the person (like a question that says "is Daniel super host? ..... 1 to 10 rating indicating the cutting line), they give a general overview that then translate into super host. but if you have amazing apartments and some terrible ones, the amazing apt will average you the super host status, and the terrible ones, will fall under the super host status as well. Which means that actually the filter is useless, because you might chose a super host but getting the terrible apt of his. That why the "guest favorite"is a more sophisticated way of transmitting the actual great places
