Stain on rug

Hi everyone

I've been hosting for about a year and have had mostly great experiences. My recent guest left quite a visible stain on the rug. We were gonna get it cleaned soon anyway as it has a few small stains but this one is visible. Is it worth putting this in my guest review? I know spillages happen when wished they had informed me so I could get it properly cleaned before my next guest.

Hi Manuela,

It's always a good idea to mention issues like this in a guest review, but it’s important to balance being honest with being fair. Here's a structured approach:

Acknowledge Positives: Start your review with something positive about the guest, if applicable (e.g., they were communicative or followed house rules).

State the Issue Factually: Mention the rug stain in a factual and non-emotional way. Avoid making it sound overly critical, but be clear about what happened. For example:

"Unfortunately, the guest did leave a visible stain on the rug and did not inform me about it. I wish I had known sooner so I could address it before the next guest's arrival."

Encourage Future Consideration: Suggest (in a kind way) that future guests communicate about such incidents. This shows you’re understanding but value proactive communication. For example:

"Spills happen, but a quick heads-up would have been appreciated so I could address it promptly."

By phrasing it this way, you remain professional while also providing constructive feedback for the guest.

If you’re hesitant to write about it in their public review, you can also provide this feedback privately through Airbnb's private message feature. Either way, it’s a good idea to let Airbnb know about the stain in case you decide to file a claim.

I hope this helps.

All the best,

@Alicia753 Thanks for this! I had a similar response in mind but you worded it so well.
