Airbnb Played Us Like Puppets/Brian Chesky Financial Scam

So any of you who believe for one second that Airbnb is "doing the right thing" and "fully refunding" guests the 100% of the booking amounts they've taken from you, might want to take a little look at the video below.

@Dawn81

Yes, I've already posted that update on several other threads here in the CC.

The fact remains though, until Airbnb sent out that email on Saturday night, they absolutely were refunding their sevice charges to many guests in the form of limited-use travel vouchers, while forcing hosts to forego 100% of accommodation fees. (Indeed, it appears that some guests may still be receiving service charges in coupons, although this has yet to be fully confirmed)

@Susan17 okay I wasn't aware that you had updated very cool. I simply rent out a private bedrooms and private bath in my 2 bedroom 2 bath plus office and laundry room home. I'm working on ideas and thoughts about whether I should try to get a regular roommate with a steady income. I like not having people around me constantly which is why I like Airbnb I can meet greet people when I want to and have chill  alone time when I want to. The other Homestay services that I've seen seem to offer only 100% rentals with no host occupying the premise. If you know of any platforms a to offer a way to post or if anyone does not appreciate them sharing that information here.

@Thomas977 thank you for posting. It's too little too late but I never did have any illusions on my importance to the company.)-:

Hello @Susan17,

I just want to clarify that Airbnb is refunding all service fees to hosts and guests by their original payment method for cancellations made under the Extenuating Circumstances policy. If anyone received a coupon, they are entitled to have the fee via their original payment method–they just need to contact our Support Team.

If you see any other people mentioning this in the CC, there shouldn't be many, please can you let them know this information.

Thanks for your help with this.

Sorry Lizzie, but that's completely contradictory. f Airbnb is indeed (now) refunding all service fees to hosts and guests via their original payment method, how would it be possible that anyone has received a coupon, and why hasn't Airbnb informed them that they're entitled to have the service fees repaid to their original payment method, and they need to contact the support team?

"If you see any other people mentioning this in the CC, there shouldn't be many, please can you let them know this information"

Again, if what Airbnb is telling you is true, why would there be anyone mentioning it all? And is it my job to put everyone straight who's discussing it on all the other Airbnb-related forums, blogs, FB groups and media articles too?

And by the way... it was Airbnb - not me - that sent out a press release to the world's media, clearly stating that they would be refunding their service fees in the form of coupons. If they want to clear that up, they really should issue a follow-up press release to let the thousands of guests who have already received limited-use vouchers (in place of service fee refunds) know that they can now contact Airbnb Support to reclaim their proper refunds to their original payment methods. That would surely be a lot more efficient than having you or I do their dirty work for them.

Hello @Susan17,

I know this is a little confusing and has been asked quite a bit in the CC so I do want to provide a little more clarity. Hopefully this will help.

There are different cases for when service fees are refunded as coupons vs. cash (the original payment method). In short, all cancellations under our extenuating circumstances for COVID-19 policy will be refunded in cash, outside of that, guests will receive service fees refunded in form of coupon payout and the regular host policy will apply.

The good news is that the team will soon be launching some new tools to help make this distinction clearer.

Thanks,
Lizzie

@Lizzie

 Well that certainly hasn't been the case all last week, and I have dozens of screenshots that suggest otherwise (which I'd happily post here, if the function to do so hadn't disappeared)  I suppose all those EC coupons must be down to another "glitch" in the system. Never mind though, the relevant snaps have already been shared elsewhere.

Also, just to clear up any misunderstandings here and to make sure everyone knows exactly what's what, please provide the list of circumstances under which guests are now receiving refunds of service fees in the form of travel coupons, where Extenuating Circumstances don't apply? Perhaps where hosts have been cajoled/coerced into providing full refunds to guests, against their better judgement, and against the terms of their own cancellation policies? Or maybe in cases where hosts are voluntarily cancelling guests because they're worried about the potential health implications for themselves and their families? Other?

Are the guests in such instances also permitted to phone Customer Support to say that they don't want limited-use coupons, and request that the funds be returned to their original payment method instead? If yes, is Airbnb informing them in advance that they have this option? And if they don't have this option, what's the reason for that?

If Airbnb truly has any will to eradicate all the chaos and confusion relating to their ever-fluid yet opaque policies, perhaps they should hire some skilled policy writers who can manage to outline things in a clear, concise and coherent manner, that both hosts and guests can easily comprehend, at a glance. But hey - truth arises more readily from error, than from confusion, doesn't it?

I have gone back to our guests, and verified that they are receiving a full refund.  So far, those that have responded, have received full refunds (including fees).  So far, no issues.

Direct quote to Guests despite the fact that hosts are being told guests are being refunded fees:

"Thinking about canceling because of the coronavirus?
Cancel your reservation, choose the COVID-19 (coronavirus) reason, and we’ll ask your host to approve a full refund. If they decline and you decide to cancel, we’ll make an exception and give you the service fee as a coupon for your next trip."

Financial Disaster for airbnb in 2020

This is a very interesting video

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9dE9IwlCCI

Airbnb with their ILLEGAL EC to refund 100% is robbing us of a lot of money, I would be really very happy that this company can go bankrupt this year and happy for his financial disaster.

when it arrives i will open a bottle of champagne
