Airbnb needs to update and refine the Amenities section.

Time to update and perfect the Amenities menu.

I have identified several areas and items that need fixing.

1.Kitchen--define a kitchen please, then add the sub-section

of Kitchenette or Efficiency Kitchen to accommodate a  cooking

facility which is less than -Kitchen or full service kitchen.

2.  Stove--definition please. is it a Range which is cook top

and oven combined ? then sub-text options of Hot Plate,

Electric Frying Pan, oven, toaster oven, toaster, air-fryer.micro-wave.

3.  Refrigerator--should specify Full Size, Under-counter type,

refer&freezer, or refrigeration only- non  freezer type.

4.  Coffee makers-- this section should provide check boxes

for all types of coffee makers--

5.  Cooking Basics--this section is messed up. It reads " pots and pans,

oil, salt and pepper.  Oil is a perishable food item and should not be offered.

Cooking basics should be amended to read--Cooking Utensils-- then

list the items sub-text: Pots & Pans, Cooking Utensils, Dishes, Linens,

Remove baking sheet. Add microwave cook ware.

I get so many inquiries about this subject, the cooking facilities, because I do

monthly stay only. So the fact that the listing does not clearly and thoroughly

detail what is being offered and included proves the need to work on this area

in the platform. It is literally not possible to fully and accurately represent my

properties . It should be clear and self explanatory to the guest consumer.

Please fix the deficiencies in this important section of the Listing.

@Susan990,

I agree that the amenities section could use some revision, but I would say that many of your suggestions are heavily skewed to the standards of North America, Australia, New Zealand, and other locations that have relatively newer architecture (not centuries old), and good infrastructure. The current amenities list is pretty generic to describe global listings.  I've written in italics some comments in response to your post.

1.Kitchen--define a kitchen please, then add the sub-section

of Kitchenette or Efficiency Kitchen to accommodate a  cooking

facility which is less than -Kitchen or full service kitchen.   What may be described as a kitchenette or efficiency kitchen to you is a full-size kitchen in other parts of the world, such as Asia, the Caribbean, Europe, Africa, Central and South America.

2.  Stove--definition please. is it a Range which is cook top

and oven combined ? then sub-text options of Hot Plate,

Electric Frying Pan, oven, toaster oven, toaster, air-fryer.micro-wave.  Again, the cooking appliances are different outside of North America, Australia, New Zealand, and other locations that have relatively newer architecture.  In many Asian and African countries, a gas or electric cooktop/hot plate/electric skillet are the standard cooking appliance, and ovens are rarely found inside of the home.

3.  Refrigerator--should specify Full Size, Under-counter type,

refer&freezer, or refrigeration only- non  freezer type.  In many parts of the world, an under counter refrigerator is common, because kitchens are relatively small due to the age of the buildings. The amenities section currently has a check box for refrigerator, mini fridge, and freezer.  I think that is sufficient for guests to know the type of refrigeration available in the rental.

4.  Coffee makers-- this section should provide check boxes

for all types of coffee makers--  There are four types of coffee makers listed already.  How many more do you think are necessary, and who would determine when all types of coffee makers have been listed?

I also think that cookware and utensils should be separated from seasonings or other consumables.  There are already check boxes for Dishes, towels and linens.

The amenities list cannot be comprehensive, because it would never include everything.  I think that specific items can be stated in the listing details.  I know many people don't read the description fully, but those same people are just as likely not to read the complete amenities listed, either.

Don't just believe what I say, check the Airbnb Help Center

I agree with you that these details are area specific.  That is why this section needs work.  The cooking component is very important and imperative for longer stays, which is where the market is headed today and going forward.  Therefor, my premise remains that the cooking section needs attending to ASAP>

I would not be barraged with questions if the platform were properly configured- area country specific-

to begin with.

p.s. the basic things you mention as being provided are NOT provided to me at my location in Oregon USA>

I agree with you about item 5 Cooking Basics--this section is messed up. It reads " pots and pans,
oil, salt and pepper. Oil is a perishable food item and should not be offered.

However, I think Airbnb should simplify the the listing process. Airbnb is asking to much information.

It is getting complicated and time consuming to fill all those options.
Apart from number of rooms, beds and basic things, the hosts can list what is important in their listings by writting it, and from my point of view it is enough.

If some guest has special requirements such as - "I need a coffee maker that can make 2 litters of coffe at once. The coffee maker must be red color painted and made of metal. I do not like coffee makers made of plastic", all the guest have to do is to ask the host in advance to know if it is possible to provide the so desired coffee maker.

It is not necessary to create lots of filters to complicated the life of the host and the guests.

(Hey Airbnb... There are pictures  !!! The guest can see the pictures and read  text description !!! )

Just my opinion.

@Susan990  A picture is worth a thousand words.  Add photos of each amenity offered in your listing.  Our property has a fire pit.  Airbnb amenities list references fireplace and BBQ grill only.  The two last families we hosted both mentioned they were looking for a property that offered a fire pit.
