I've been on a news "blackout" since the election and just stumbled on this very disturbing information yesterday! I will be emailing several members on the Airbnb board (easy to find their email addresses by Googling, "Airbnb board member email addresses") to voice my concern and point out the obvious conflict of Airbnb's own Nondiscrimination Policy (https://www.airbnb.com/help/article/2867) while a a co-founder and member of their board supports an administration whose people and policy openly and actively demonstrate discrimination and xenophobia. In Brian Chesky's 2021 letter, "What Makes Airbnb, Airbnb" (https://news.airbnb.com/what-makes-airbnb-airbnb/) he says, "They say that a crisis has a way of revealing your true character." With the democracy of our United States facing a serious crisis, it’s disheartening to see Mr. Gebbia expose his true character.
I may be just one person with limited power to create change, but it's the only power I have. But, if enough others join in, urging the board to take the right action, together we might be able to make a difference. However, if that does not happen, I too will remove my listing from the Airbnb platform and use other platforms when booking my travel. I will not support a company that does not support DEI values.
