A second wave of COVID-19 is going to visit all countries!
This might seem boring but can you please continue to read this post because the second part of it is important to everyone!!
As of yesterday Friday 15th May, my state has been officially classified coronavirus free! We have beaten this bug
But this doesn’t mean we are out of trouble. We are still social distancing and we are keeping our borders closed. It will probably be the end of the year before we allow international travelers back into this state.
Countries who have got on top of the virus such as South Korea are finding that they are facing renewed outbreaks and the main reason for this is the current method of coronavirus testing…..it is simply not reliable!
This South Korean epidemiologist explains why there is a weak spot in the system.
https://youtu.be/QwoNP9QWr4Y?t=698
This may be difficult to follow because it is in spoken Korean, but it is subtitled. If you watch from 4 minutes 20 seconds until about 9 minutes, he explains the flaw in the testing system.
It is not known as yet if people who have been infected and subsequently have recovered have antibodies that prevent them from being re-infected. It is more probable that they have a relapse…..not a re-infection.
As this doctor states, the virus needs a minimum of 3,000 replications in the human body before it will show up as a positive result! Under that 3,000 replications the result will show as, negative. Now that’s not to say the person does not have coronavirus, it just means there is not enough of the virus in the body to show as a positive result!
Someone can be given the all clear, been given medication to alleviate the symptoms and after time test negative, but still have the virus active in their system. Because they have been cleared they don’t worry about social distancing and they just mingle into the community and……….this is where the second spike is going to come from.
We are aware of this here in our state which is why we still haven’t opened up Pubs and restaurants and sporting activities such as football, despite the fact that we are coronavirus free!
Please be aware there will be a second spike in this disease and prepare for it. Take notice of what this doctor is saying. He is a professional and knows exactly what he is talking about…….. unlike the US president.
Stay safe, stick with social quarantining, if you do, we will all be able to get back to normal far quicker than if we try to kid ourselves that there are short-cuts here.
Cheers……..Rob
@Robin4 Important for everyone to be aware of and understand.
And although it's quite lengthy, I am going to post here a letter from a health professional that was posted on another non-hosting forum I follow. It really drives home the fact that we simply can't afford to start thinking this is on its way to being over.
Yes indeed. Despite two growing clusters in Melbourne people have decided that everything is fine now. Daylesford was full of tourists yesterday. I'm staying in.
One is at a meatworks, isn't it?
It would be of public interest if they allow the use of END devices, e-cigarettes / vapes within workplace areas, including Smoko rooms as the FDA in USA called a very similar disease, EVALI to what we now know as COVID19.
It is of public interest to exhaust all avenues of possible causes of this where these clusters including that of chemicals used & exposed to in workplaces & the environment in general.
Our local supermarket has now placed a NO SMOKING board at the entrance to the carpark in an attempt to stop the use of such illegal products & second (2nd) hand exposure to them.
We have a fabulous community focused owner of our supermarket who is case 13 here in NZ 😉.
Maybe raise it amongst your community & check what the legislation is in your location surrounding the use of them as there's interesting links btwn what's happening across the world as we all have the right to go safely about our lives on a daily basis & should not be living in fear.
The Tobacco companies in USA have been told to pay continuing health costs relating to EVALI...
Keep safe out there.
I'm still waiting for the first wave . . .
Then pray it doesn't come. However with Trump's obsession with getting every state open again I fear you may see it before long.
@Robbie54, prayer is good when things are fine and even better when they aren't so fine like this last 3 months. 22,000+ New Yorkers, 90,000+ US citizens are among of the 300,000+ dead world wide, any victories we can claim to date were paid for with the lives of our loved ones. My prayers go out to all that are experiencing the loss of loved ones, they are the ones that prayers could help. At the same time, they and millions of others may not even be able to support their most basic needs out of work and out of money. Gods pretty busy at the moment, they need human intervention and a way back.
I try never to talk US politics here but describing how our system functions isnt the same so let me give it a try. Nearly all of us in the US including our government officials want the same thing, a safe phased opening of all parts of our economy and lives. We have a giant and varied geography, population, climates, available services and even different laws that mean we just cannot and should not treat all locations in a State or our Country exactly the same as another. That's exactly BTW one of the biggest reasons our president actually doesn't have the authority to choose for states when and how they can and will return to work and life, thats our state's governors job and they are all actively working on that.
New York State has an economy broken up into 5 zones, each as large as a small nation. Only 3 of which have met the testing and treatment goals set by our Governor and State department of health and human services and they are only opening limited sectors of employment that have proven risk mitigation is in place.
Im a cup half full kinda person so, The good news for all of us here and around the globe is that today is not 3 months ago when we knew absolutely nothing about this planetary enemy and even the things we thought we knew were mostly wrong. I can only speak of what I have experienced here, because of our responses as a Nation, state, region and locality, the prolific mostly dire predictions have not come true, The USA was expected to have 2.5 million +/- deaths from this by Memorial day (May 25th). Everyday, antibody testing confirms that more people have already had this things and likely wont get it again soon if ever due to the likelihood we will have a vaccine before any immunity wears off. That doesn't save a life that's been or will be lost but it assures us that less will succumb to it.
We must not lose sight of the fact the statistics about the human suffering and losses from covid 19's attack on the human body dont take into account the deaths caused by our reaction to it and not the disease itself. Those that can't get medical or mental health service's because they aren't "Urgent and Necessary" , the fitness and social routines that keeps people vital, healthy and connected, the farmers that are dumping their milk and slaughtering and burying cattle that won't be able to find their way to market or have crops rotting in the fields or the Oil field worker that sees no light at the end of the tunnel with $24.00 a barrel crude nobody wants to buy. They may die slower but death is still dead to their loved ones even if they aren't in the daily news stats.
To be sure Robbie, our nation and this planet must open for business again and sooner than later or toilet paper shortages will be the least of our issues. Stay well, JR
Excellent post @Melodie-And-John0 - as usual.
I always have been of the position that only time will reveal and put into perspective what this Covid-19 pandemic really was/is/will be. In the meantime most of the people in the world have been willing to make unheard-of sacrifices to their economic life (barring the usual 10% Neanderthals that can't understand or follow anything), and are willing to accept whatever inconveniences (masks, distances, reduction of numbers in one place at any given time, etc etc) are still being asked of them and are willing to exercise them even into the future.
Is it possible to do both - yes continue to exercise totally new cautions and restraints in case this is really that dangerous; (or truly unique, but at first all new things are unique), but also is it time to equally pay attention to other necessary & important functions of life (medical tests, operations, other deceases, addictions, mental health, economic life, etc) that also determine in many cases whether you live or die, and their combined death tally traditionally pale ther death toll of Covid-19 thus far. This is an age old dilemma for society, it is always having to weight the cost of safe living vs. economic cost to achieve it, specially in capitalist societies where one's economic welfare does really determine one's personal freedom.
No time for bi-modal thinking and those that speak and only think in absolutes, that things must be only either this way or that way, need to be viewed with a very critical eye, in case - they are dead wrong.
@Robbie54 Give it up Robbie. We've lost over 30 million jobs! It's not an obsession, it's a necessity. You are not going to cure the disease by staying home.
Give what up exactly @Juan63 ? I'm all for getting people back to work, when it's safe!! The fact remains that the spread of the virus is going down in just a hand full of states, whereas in most states it's going up. Now you tell me, do you want to return to work when it's still spreading, passing it on to other workers? And who says the disease will be cured by staying at home? I think you have severely missed the point.
@Robbie54 There is no "when it's safe." There will never be a cure, and just like the flu, we have to live with it. While you're at it, don't drive until it's safe, don't fly until it's safe and don't live until it's safe. Get over your disdain for Trump. You don't even live here. Many here love his policies and he will win in November.
I see in reputable news media publications that deaths that have come from "Respiratory" illnesses are recorded on the CDC as having Covid19 & people in the USA have rightly so expressed concern about the incorrect recording of data.
We had something similar happen here in New Zealand at the beginning of lockdowns & Director of Health daily media speeches. Thankfully we live in a country where locals speak up & the families concerned contacted the media to ensure those who were trying to mislead us were not able to pull swifties, alas the Aged Care home facilities where there been "clusters" are seeking to get to the bottom of why they keep having deaths associated with there homes labelled as Covud19.
Perhaps those of us who eat chicken are all Covid19 positive bc according to the "experts " it was a strain of birds that caused the 1918-1919 epidemic... It's time "scientists" stopped hypothesising & left it to those who know first hand about their private health matters.
It's sad am round however we all die of something somehow or another.
Enjoy each day one wakes up & the daylight comes up
@Helen427 this will go into the books as the most misinformed pandemic in history while destroying the greatest economy the world has ever seen. And unnecessarily I might add. I can’t tell you how many times people in this forum and all over the internet would say “listen to the experts.” 99% of the experts got it wrong. Those health experts are also not economists. So their wrong answers have destroyed many lives. As we open up, the proof is in the pudding. This is a serious but tiny health crisis that was overblown at all levels.
Wow. Just wow.
Its irrelevant whether I live there or not. When it's safe does not mean when its eradicated, it means when the contract rate is down to accepted levels, based on scientific evidence, NOT when the rate is going up in many many states. That's just plain daft. As daft as Trump taking hydroxychloroquine. Even Trump’s own government has warned that the drug should only be administered for Covid-19 in a hospital or research setting due to potentially fatal side effects.
There will never be a cure? On who's scientific claim do you base that on? Your own I guess. Ridiculous comment.
