Short-term rentals have truly become a game-changer for tourism on the Kenya Coast, by offering alternative accommodation, it has boosted both domestic and international travel while supporting local businesses and creating jobs.
I am beyond excited to share that, thanks to this incredible success, I was invited to represent my community in the UNESCO mission to help develop the Malindi-Watamu-Arabuko Sokoke Biosphere Reserve Ecotourism Strategy (2025-2030)! It’s been an amazing journey working alongside key tourism stakeholders, including Kenya Wildlife Service, Kenya Tourism, local CBOs, NGOs, women’s groups, and so many more.
This is such a proud moment for our community, as our efforts as short-term rental hosts are being recognized. Together, we are shaping a sustainable and thriving tourism future for our region.
Allow me to take a moment and shout it all out to celebrate and honour this incredible lady Naomi208. She is one of the most self-driven and passionate person I know, always using her experiences to create a brighter future. Her dedication and resilience inspire everyone around her, turning challenges into opportunities and making a real impact wherever she goes. She has been a true champion for our hosting community, working tirelessly to support us, even going as far as knocking on government doors to advocate for our cause. Because of her, we have reached milestones that once seemed impossible. Her recognition by Airbnb at the recent MEA Summit was such a proud moment for all of us — so well-deserved!
Naomi, we are so thankful for everything you have done. Today, we choose to celebrate you and all the incredible work you continue to do for our community!
Thank you, @Pam5 for sharing your involvement in advancing tourism in Kenya. It’s inspiring to see you represent your community with UNESCO on the Biosphere Reserve Ecotourism Strategy, alongside Kenya Wildlife Service and women’s groups.
Your efforts, along with STRA hosts, have help shape sustainable tourism with Hosts and this can help them to become more independent and look after their environment. This was a wonderful account to read.
