Covid 19 small business grant fund

Hi,

I've applied for the small business grant to my local council (Gwynedd-North Wales) and have been told they are waiting for guidance from the Welsh government as to whether self catering accommodation are eligible for the grant. 

I'd be interested to hear if any fellow hosts have received the grant.

In England any business getting Small Business Rates relief is eligible. Provided you are on business rates there should not be a problem but Wales may be different. There is a post elsewhere from a person who has been paid out as has a friend of ours. Sadly we are still waiting! I suggest you look at a few local authority websites in England and compare their policies to some in Wales to see if there is a difference.

Ive read the guidance from welsh government and it seems pretty clear to me that our property qualifies for the grant....we are on business rates so should qualify for the lower grant.

We received the grant after only 3 working days of the local council receiving the online form. I think you need to have the small business relief rate. This is such a lifeline as Airbnb aren't helping hosts at all, very shameful on their part. No one, including Airbnb representatives, seem to know when superhosts will be receiving the grant offer. What a joke.

Are you a host @Bobbiecool0 ? as you don't have a listing attached to your profile?

The grants for superhosts are on an invitation only basis for those on the lowest income.

I am fully expecting them to go to hosts in developing countries on the lowest incomes, rather than us hosts in the UK with our access to welfare benefits, free healthcare, mortgage breaks etc.

Glad to hear you got small business relief. Have you applied for a mortgage break, universal. credit, tax credits etc?

Yes I'm a host. I'm aware the Airbnb grant is for superhosts, which I am one, but I'm dubious I'll get an invite even though I more than qualify. In my experience Airbnb are not to be trusted on a myriad of issues. 

I'm waiting for the self employed goverment grant, which is coming shortly. I spoke to a very helpful universal credit representative and we agreed that unless things change for the worse in the coming months the council grant and the upcoming self employed grant should see us through ok 🙂
