DO NOT take away our livelihood! we want to LIVE !!! Do not close Airbnb in Mexico during the Quarantine.

Hello,
The federal government, in some of its instances, pressed and managed to get Airbnb to block new reservations for April 2020, only in our country. According to why hosting does not represent an essential activity. Hotels can agree to have up to a 15% reservation limit. But we nothing. If it were this fair measure then we deserve at least 15%, in addition, if we adhere to the protocol of sanitary measures, we are safer than hotels and the spaces that are rented in full on Airbnb are even more so. It is as if the real estate agencies cannot rent because they can be infected, if families come to rent a property, it is exactly the same for those who rent complete spaces through Airbnb, which is the largest lodging company in the entire world, so the Airbnb community, we also represent clarifying an essential source of income, for some of us, income through Aibnb represents our livelihood or the way we pay our children's mortgage or university, health insurance and our way of life . Honestly this to suspend is very absurd, it is unfair and also I think Airbnb was not up to defending us, we are the only country in the world that has been blocked in this way. And even federal authorities have not declared a level 3 pandemic. And that will not prevent travelers from stopping arriving. Please, we collect signatures so that they return the same rights as to the hotels, which in addition we are not the same, but we host, and we do it with unparalleled care, and we have been successful, people are preferring us, not only for the price, but because it represents a host community that welcomes travelers like home. They must allow us to work because if in Mexico it has been said that there would be 2,000,000 new jobs, this blocking mechanism is in antipode to the resolution of new jobs, there are more than 5,000 hosts in Mexico, what will happen to us and our families?
Please help us!!!, the hosts of Mexico need your support.

@Elena960  While I agree that it's unfair for hotels to be allowed to rent rooms at this time, the fact is that no one should be renting rooms. It doesn't only have to do with you following proper disinfection protocol, no one should be travelling right now- everyone is supposed to be staying home and not going out except for essential things. This is the only way to stop the spread of the virus right now. If you rent rooms or even an entire space to anyone other than essential workers, like medical staff, you are encouraging the spread of the virus and being irresponsible. You can't do anything about people who ignore the isolation directives, but you don't have to participate in facilitating that.

My calendar was also blocked until May 1st, but there is no way I have been accepting any reservations all of March, or going forward, until this pandemic is under control, and I cancelled the one reservation I had for April 5, way back in mid-March, because I wish to be part of the solution, not part of the problem.

I know Tijuana is in the midst of a nightmare situation at his time with an overwhelming number of COVID patients. Mny of the doctrs and nurses falling ill themselves. They will have to get in more medical personnel fom elsewhere and those people will need housing. Some of the local doctors and nurses may need ousing as well, so they don't go home and possibly infect their famlies. Contact your hospitals and offer housing at a discounted rate. This is how you can help and still make a bit of income.

It is not just in Mexico that Airbnbs are blocked for the pandemic rules. The UK is, some US states, and other places in the world. It doesn't just have to do with the Mexican hotel lobby- it's happening all over the world.

If you do rent to medical personnel, do not go in to clean during their stay, or for a week afterwards. Make sure to leave them cleaning products. Remove all extraneous things from the unit, so there is less to disinfect afterwards. Throw pillows, decorative items, extra sheets and towels, extra dishware, etc. Just leave what is necessary for the number of people who will be staying there.
