I'm new to this and have had a few guests not provide a review. I did some looking in the forums and apparently that's typical. I stayed at two AirBNBs myself last week and I find as a traveler, the software asks for a LOT of information. What we see as hosts is only the public review and a private review (which seems inconsistent as well). What happens to all that extra information?
@Steve3189 yes, good question. Has anyone ever been contacted by CS and asked to provide further info?
That is an excellent question! I'd love to see the guest's responses. We always try to improve what we do, this sort of information could be very helpful
@Kitty-and-Creek0 @Steve3189 @Gillian166
Airbnb uses that information as a way to ensure listings are accurate.
@Emilia42 but shouldn't we as the hosts get that information too? To improve or confirm how we are performing with our listing and hosting...
@Stephanie1933 I suppose but since Airbnb cannot inspect, let alone confirm, that all the listings on their site are up to their standards, they need a way to internally monitor a listing's performance. This is based on guests' private feedback to Airbnb, not the host.
Many of the questions ask guests things like "Does this house have an a/c?" The guest is instructed to answer "Yes" "No" or "Not Sure." If a host has air conditioning listed as an amenity but 5 guests say "No," Airbnb/their algorithm is going to be tipped off that the listing may not be accurate.
@Emilia42 actually it says "we'll tell the host how they're doing" or something like that.
@Gillian166 You're right it does say that. I asked the moderators last year where this info could be found. They said they would try to find out but there was never an answer.
@Emilia42 yes, I have been a guest and answered those questions. What you are saying makes sense but alongside Airbnb I think we should be given a copy of the answers. It would help a lot of hosts I am sure. IMO 🙂
Or create a lot more stress because a high percentage of guests selected "Very accommodating" instead of "Extremely accommodating." 🙂
@Steve3189 There used to be a 'highlights' section where the guest could optionally choose the elements of the listing they liked the best, like 'sparkling clean', but at some point that seemed to disappear. I'm not sure how useful it was though. It didn't give me too much insight as different guests seemed to pick quite different things. When they are asked too much information, they are not going to give each section a lot of thought.
I will have to say as a traveler, I looked for different things than the people I rent my place to. I was taking a long motorcycle trip by myself so I was looking and cheap, and suburbian or safe places where I could park the bike. Another factor was a washing machine since I was only taking a small amount of clothes. Found s couple of perfect situations. I had one host turn me down, I think because I mentioned that I was on a motorcycle. LOL Was sort of interesting to see it from the other side because I haven't travelled in a while.
