Please answer the phone and don't cut me off.
Please just once after weeks of web chat answer just one question.
Please learn from HomeAway who could apply GST to my listings in 5 minutes over the phone.
@Simon2754 this is a community forum, we are hosts just like you. You can try to contact Airbnb through facebook or twitter. There are also several regular contributors from your beautiful land who may know the answer
@Sandra126 @Kath9 @Kathie19 @Robin4 and I am sure I am forgetting someone
If the question is please add gst, then no, we can't answer that. You can add it by having a higher price, I suppose.
@Simon2754 I believe you only need to add your ABN in Australia.
All prices are GST inclusive anyway. Some countries add tax after a transaction.
@Simon2754, Airbnb doesn't add GST for you (if that's your question). As a small business owner, you need to decide whether you are liable for GST, and then charge accordingly. I suggest contacting the ATO with any GST questions.
As a Canadian host and seasonal in Ontario, our annual revenue is under $30,000. Revenue Canada clearly states that as a "small supplier" we are neither obliged to collect or remit GST. Airbnb in a reply email stated that they do not recognize small suppliers.
I do not wish to be drawn into the hellish world of paperwork created from tax collection when it is totally unnecessary according to Canadian tax legislation, yet AIRbnb seems insistant even after several phone calls and emails.
Anyone else trying to deal with this???
@Marilyn395 - this particular thread is related to GST in Australia. I found these Canadian-based threads that might yield your answer (or be a better place to pose your q if unanswered). I am still searching for answers myself 🙂
