my current guest wants to add a night and sent request but it kicks in weekly discount so it would only cost them $45 (my listing is normally $200-$250 range a night) any advice on how to handle this?
The weekly discount is applied when booking is 7 or more nights. I understand your guest added a 7th night and now he gets the weekly discount also on the nights already stayed ?
Sent the change request yourself to the guest. The change form gives you the opportunity to amend the calculated price to what you want it to be.
You do not have to offer a weekly discount on your listing! It’s completely optional and you can set the percentage to whatever you want. But if it were me I would honor it at this point. It really costs you nothing to host an existing guest one additional night, so unless you are pretty confident you’ll get another booking at the $200-$250 rate I would accept this request from the guest.
@Jenny1247 I would absolutely honor the discount. With this additional night, they will have stayed a week, so are eligible for the discount. Apparently they are good guests, or you likely wouldn't be letting them do this. For me, it's not always all about money. It's about feeling lucky to have nice guests, goodwill, and many other things relative to being a host. My two cents.
I personally would honour the discount - why else do you have it other than to encourage longer stays? It's less work for you than another guest coming in, and if this guest had simply originally booked the full week you would have been happy with the discounted price, so what has changed? I would accept it, especially if they already sent the reservation alteration request and saw the discount appear, because otherwise if you try anything else they'll realize you're trying to charge them at the non-weekly discount rate despite them staying a week.
