To my fellow Canadian hosts - just wondering how you handle requests from guests from other countries? I have a request from an American who lives in a Covid hot spot and am not entirely comfortable with hosting them. Even if the Canada-U.S. border reopens by then, I'm sure I want to have them. Our suite is in our house so there are lots of shared areas.
Any advice, thanks.
Joni
I had an instant book last week from New York City, @Joni-and-Brian0 , for the first week of July, and I just sent them links to the government (Canada and Ontario) updates. I told them it was looking unlikely the border would be open for their trip and suggested they cancel within 48 hours in order to be fully refunded. They did. They say they will rebook when the border opens, and that is fine here, as there are no shared spaces.
So that's how I am handling it, but in your case it should be even easier. You cannot send links with requests, but you could have them look those up themselves. Ask them to withdraw their request, and suggest that even if the border opens they should look for a more suitable whole-house space in which they can quarantine if that becomes a requirement.
Thanks for your thoughts. I ended up telling them not accepting American bookings at this time.
@Joni-and-Brian0 No, just no. Non-essential cross-border travel isn't allowed now and it may very well be extended. I also have a home-share here in Mexico (although I'm Canadian) and I am not accepting reservations at all at the present time. In addition to it being a big health risk to you personally, do you really want to encourage people to travel and expose your entire community to the virus?
Thanks for your thoughts Sarah, I ended up telling them I’m not accepting Americans at this time. Good point about protecting my community as well as ourselves.

Despite low numbers, but growing, I'm no t hosting at all. Others around me are. I am all for low numbers. Despite having snoozed my listing, I'm getting constant enquiries from past guests who don't see a problem with travel. We have to travel within our state ATM, nobody else wants us as our numbers ar e higher. But I'm too unwilling to risk it.
