Idea to improve Community Airbnb Vibe

I spent many wonderful years of my youth living and working in the international hostel community.

I had a lot of great experiences and made some amazing friends. 

Recently, I had a guest ask me if their were a way that he could make connections like those we make at hostels. Things like a hiking friend or person to enjoy the local scene with, and the only answer I could come up with was, ‘go to the app Meetup.’

I send a lot of guests to our active local Meetup hiking and adventuring groups. It’s a free way to improve thier experience of the lovely communities that I live in. 

I was thinking wouldn’t it be cool if Airbnb had a thing that was like ‘Meetup’ built into the Airbnb app. 

For Example: Travellers staying at different Airbnb in the same area could find each other through Airbnb and share their hiking adventures or go  enjoy the local scene together. 

NO FEE - just an added bonus to the Airbnb community- an added community. 

Of course, each party could look at the other persons rating as a guest and have a little bit of info on new friends they were going hiking with or bowling or fishing. 

Just an idea because when your traveling it’s cool ti meet up with other people who are traveling and share the adventure. 
(it’s what the old Hostel system offered that Airbnb doesn’t ….yet)

Cool idea. Ocean boaters when they pull into a new harbor they can look up information on other boats already there and communicate with them and share information or comradeship.

@Laura2714 a great idea when we used the hostels we always looked at the notice board for different activities which I  suppose should be in our Guest book.

Your idea gives a suggestion to mention social activities in your local area in our inside guests manual that way you don't have to update all the time.

It might not even need to be part of the app, directly- 

but, definitely, a closer Airbnb corporate partnership with Meetup could be developed. 

I’m always encouraging guests to enjoy one of our local ‘meet up’ groups that shared thier interests. 

Yes. We can send our guests to Airbnb experiences, too. but, meet up app is different because it’s free.
