Indian Hosts: Share Your Experience Renovating a Home for Airbnb!

Hi everyone! I’m from India and planning to buy a cheap house (like Italy’s 1 euro homes), renovate it, and rent it on Airbnb. I’d love to hear from Indian hosts who’ve done this—especially if you’ve tackled renovations! What challenges did you face? How’s it going now? Feel free to DM me or reply here. Thanks!

Hello @Raj1507 ,

That sounds like a fantastic idea! Buying and renovating properties to run on Airbnb can be a rewarding venture. I've been an Airbnb host for the past seven years and currently manage two beautifully renovated old properties.

From my experience, providing a comfortable bed and well-maintained washrooms is absolutely essential. While interiors and additional amenities can enhance the guest experience, these two elements are non-negotiable.

One important tip I’ve learned over the years—consider replacing the water pipes during renovations. Plumbing issues in a running property can be a real hassle, so it’s best to take care of them upfront to avoid future headaches.

Wishing you all the best with your venture!

Hey there!

I'm an Airbnb host from Rishikesh, and I recently renovated my property, Shankar Bhawan, to create a cozy and inviting stay for travelers. While I didn’t buy a 1 euro home, my renovation journey was still quite intense and rewarding!

A few things I’ve learned along the way:

:hammer_and_wrench:️ It’s a Full-Time Job: Hosting isn’t just about listing your space—it’s a daily commitment. You'll have great opportunities, but you’ll also need to be highly available and hands-on.

🧹 Immaculate Cleanliness is Key: Cleanliness can make or break your reviews. I often handle cleaning myself because I feel it's never quite perfect unless I do it. Guests truly notice and appreciate that extra effort.

🚀 Constant Improvement: Even though it’s only been a week since I reopened, I’m already improving one thing or another every day—and honestly, there’s still a lot on my plate!

🖌Balancing Aesthetics & Functionality: Small touches like an automatic air freshener, a full-size mirror for aesthetics (and Instagram pics!), and a curated food menu have added value without overwhelming me.

🙏 Heritage & Spiritual Vibes: Shankar Bhawan has an in-house Shivji temple that’s been part of the property for years, giving it a unique heritage touch. Guests often appreciate the peaceful, traditional vibe this brings to their stay.

If you have questions about renovation, guest experience, or day-to-day hosting, feel free to ask! Wishing you the best on your Airbnb journey—it’s challenging but truly fulfilling. 😊
