Joe Gebbia and DOGE

Are there other Airbnb supporters alarmed with co-founder Gebbia working with Musk in DC?

Hello @Anne15785

Thought you might be interested in reading a post from another host on this very issue:

Absolutely, alarmed and outraged.

Yes. @Airbnb  - what is your position on this?

I'm more alarmed about the monster that you Americans voted into power.

Believe me, half of us are equally alarmed.

Please don't start with the "you Americans" rhetoric. I lived through that in the 70's when I didn't vote those Presidents in.  It is not helpful.

I am disgusted that anybody would align themselves with the narcissist, ketamine-addict Elon Musk who bought and paid for his influence over an already corrupt president, openly bought votes and possibly also paid to falsify election results - time will tell on that one.

That the chairman of Airbnb is now working with 'DOGE' (which is not a government department but Trump's personal troop of thugs)  concerns me on a moral level, but it is also extremely concerning on a business level. I found out about this on social media - not through Airbnb communicating transparently with the hosts who are its lifeblood - but as part of a call to boycott Airbnb completely.

I expect resistance activities in the US to increase greatly in the coming months and years - and a boycott will have repercussions wherever Airbnb operates, including over here.

I can't blame American people for resisting any way they can, but I object to my modest livelihood being put at risk by a foreign billionaire, and I can't fully express my distaste with being in any way connected to Musk or Trump.

Agreed 100%.

Well put and I completely agree.

This sums it all up! I didn’t think i could get any more disgusted at the situation our country is in and now Gebbia decides he need to participate in LITERALLY the most despised group in USA right now: DOGE. Musk’s abysmal approval rating shows 2/3 of the country doesn’t like him. How is this going to HELP Airbnb? Oh right, Gebbia is a multi-billionaire. He doesn’t actually give a F about the hosts and patrons anymore.

Yes, I just started following this story and want to learn more. Airbnb is so convenient, I've really, really enjoyed using it, but I am currently sharing this news in my social circle (all heavy airbnb users), and they will spread it, because this is a grotesque move by Gebbia and I will boycott airbnb, if necessary. I read on an airbnb host forum today that hosts are starting to receive messages about Gebbia and at least one host experienced a cancellation already on this basis. There is discussion among hosts to put pressure on Airbnb to confirm their commitment to DEI policies and to effectively cut ties with Gebbia, if at all possible. They've started writing in to Airbnb, so we should continue to put pressure on hosts to speak up and/or make changes. My next question is: can anyone vouch for good alternatives to Airbnb? Please share your ideas.

Agreed and following.  I'd like to learn of good alternatives as well.

Who should we contact and what methods of contact? What are the demands? I’m on board. Airbnb PR team needs to address this —  public needs to realizes airbnb hosts are not the “enemy.” It’s the billionaire class that is the problem.

I’m a host and absolutely disgusted. I want to protest or simply leave and rent my room. I don’t want to ruin my guests vacations but this is unacceptable. Where are hosts protesting? Or where can we protest. I’m not sure he will care, leaving Airbnb may be the only option.
