Joe Gebbia joins DOGE

Hi everyone,

Is anyone else concerned that Joe Gebbia has joined DOGE?

Does he still earn income from Airbnb as a board member? This makes me very sad as I can't support a guy like that.  I really like the service airbnb provides and the ease of use for a host.

Anyone else feel the same way?

I'd rather him step down from Airbnb.  He clearly doesn't have the value set that airbnb should be embracing.

Oh hell yeah. I’ve been hosting with Airbnb for 14 years and I am quitting immediately. I will not travel with them either. Airbnb is going DOWN over this crap!

Maybe they will toss Joe Gebbia out - if they do, I will stick with them.  He owns 7% of the company and sits on the board.  I think the Board of Directors should release him and put out a statement rebuking this maneuver.  If not, although I made a lot of money over the past 12 years hosting - I hope they TANK for this bs.

I wonder if there is an email address we can all write to asking for Joe Gebbia to resign or they. boot him out?  Maybe if enough people write they would....???

CONCERNED?  I AM FURIOUS.  I am a 12 year host, and a SUPERHOST in the US. 

I am actively seeking other platforms to list my airbnb listings on.  I also travel a fair bit and use airbnb  - well no more.  I am sickened by the rise of authoritarian tactics and the hostile takeover of our government.  They are not abiding by our constitution and they are hacking into our data.

Its like China.  A national nightmare and JOE GEBBIA has joined them.

The Board of Airbnb better quit him like a bad habit, because my social media feeds are blowiing uo with a boycott.  It sucks.  Stupid and shameful!

I have been using the platform for years as a guest, but moving to other options immediately now. I cannot support Airbnb unless Gebbia is gone.

Well, insofar as we are building a home with a lakefront apartment that we have been planning to list on AirBNB, this is terrible news.

I would make some effort to keep my business from funding the MAGA-sphere to the extent possible (for example I never buy office or other supplies from Uline) but I will try to learn more about what this means. Also, it is a good time to learn what options outside of the big hegemon are viable for listing our (to be) lovely space.

Take action, but please DON’T BOYCOTT! There’s something else you can do. Otherwise, you’ll hurt DISPLACED PERSONS in need of housing and mom-and-pop HOSTS like me. Read on!

CONCERN: Joe Gebbia, co-founder of Airbnb, has just joined DOGE. There are loud calls to boycott Airbnb. But…

KEY BACKGROUND: There are TWO Airbnb companies: .COM and .ORG. Notice that the second is a not-for-profit company. ORG provides FREE housing for displaced people all over the Globe – Ukraine, LA fires (19,000 people so far), Southeast Georgia floods, Greece earthquakes, and many others. Hosts can contribute $$ or their rental unit to help fund it. Check out their website.

GEBBIA: He’s the Chairman of .ORG. He stepped away from any executive role at .COM years ago, though he is still on the board and an 8% owner.

TAKE ACTION: Skip the boycott and continue to help others who are desperate, and go right to the top. Tell the other co-founders you want Gebbia removed from the .COM Board and the leadership team at .ORG. Email Brian Chesky - the Chairman and CEO of .COM, as well as Nathan Blecharczyk - Chief Strategy Officer of .COM. (See email addresses below.)

Boycotts are effective, but so is deluging leaders with our opinions. The latter doesn’t hurt those who are being helped.

I am an early adopter of Airbnb - booking most of my vacations on it for over a decade and  a Superhost myself.  This is devastating.  I will be making start booking vacations on VRBO and creating a post for my property on VRBO to eventually withdraw my cabin from Airbnb.  This one hurts, but it's important to do.

I totally agree!  I called SuperHost Support and expressed my thoughts about how this association is in conflict to Airbnb's stated Values.  I got the impression they are getting many calls...keep it up!

The Support team member sent me the link to give written feedback also, which I used.
