Meet the boss

I'm all for women achieving great things.

But with all the emphasis on "listening to hosts", it certainly appears to be rather selective hearing.

@Elaine701 So unfair!!! She is listening to the Host Advisory Board.....

Which reminds me who are the new folks on said HAB or has it been quietly dropped by Airbnb. @Till-and-Jutta0 Have you finished your 12 month stint or are you unable to comment due to confidentiality agreement?

Our Labrador also has selective hearing - She acts deaf unless food is being prepared when she turns up immediately. We clearly need to find the @Catherine-Powell equivalent of food for a Labrador. Any ideas anyone?

I can't read the content, as it's behind a paywall. 😞

@Elaine701 me either. But I am interested in the fact that she is still around. I thought she went on to other things, based on the responsiveness and involvement she has had.

It must be a country thing. No paywall for me here in Spain.

It's a WSJ piece about how she "saved" Airbnb during the pandemic. She attributes that success in part, to "listening to hosts". I found that somewhat ironic.

What contact do you have with  @Catherine-Powell   @Till-and-Jutta0 ?

I'm sure you will understand that as hosts we find her claims somewhat surprising as she never responds to those who tag her in posts and I can't remember the last time she came on this group to interact with hosts or provide us with updates or clarification.

Can we have an update on what your advisory group has achieved since it was set up and whether new members have joined. And what work it has been doing to address key host concerns like problem guests who have to be evicted being able to leave revenge reviews and ruin a hosts reputation.

There was a flurry of activity to promote your board when it first started and some of you started joining in with this community - yourself seeming to be one of the most active. Since then there hasn't been much and I can't see anything on how your board gains feedback from hosts to share our views with Airbnb . An update on this would be good too.

OH MY WORD!! That article was translated by a robot and not a smart one at that... And actually a story about ABB where every single sentence has a word or phrase that kind of, but not really, makes sense is quite possibly the most ABB thing I've ever read.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE all of you go read it, *I'm holding of fishing air until you enter and tell me your logic of the chunk*

**(I'm waiting with bated breath until you return and tell me what you think of the piece)

@Kelly149 Yeah, I spit my coffee out a few times reading that, lol. Quite something.

I like what you did there . ROFL.

@Kelly149  That has to be the worst translation I've ever read.

I loved the "50 online ordeals".

And the closing of  the article, "This story has been printed from a wire company feed devoid of modifications to the text"

That's what the past month of enquiries/requests has felt like for me, i.e. '50 online ordeals'.

@Debra300

Thanks @Debra300 for finding the accessible article.  I’m afraid I lost the thread, chuckling over the unintentional 😂 in translation- from its probable origin in English, to Spanish and back to English.

I would never have known that “Mr. Chicken”, AKA “Mr. Bird”, her boss, held such an important position at Disney.  Maybe he knows Big Bird?

And this sizzling bit:

“He is these a strong voice,” Ms. Powell said of Mr. Kwan. Centered on suggestions from a very same-sexual intercourse few who stayed at his Airbnb condominium just after emotion unwelcome at a distinct quick-time period rental, Mr. Kwan asked Ms. Powell how the business could prepare hosts to triumph over biases, even unconscious ones. He also recommended photographing hosts’ properties in means that far better reflect their individual tales, lifestyle and heritage.

Sorry, I’m someone who gets a bang reading assembly instructions translated from Chinese...so this really made my evening 🤣

Glad to see I’m not the only one!

@Marie6762  I have a supposedly English manual for my Chinese industrial serger sewing machine. Every other word is either spelled wrong, or no such word exists in English. It's not even a bad Google translation.

That always cracks me up- there must be thousands of people in China who are actually fluent in English, but what I picture is someone saying, "We get Uncle Harry to translate. Uncle Harry speak well English."
