New to the Community Center? Introduce yourself here โ€Œ๐Ÿ‘‡

Hello everyone! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Welcome to the Community Center! ๐Ÿ‘‹  I'm @Bhumika , one of the Community Managers for our English Community Center along with my lovely team members @Quincy @Paula @Rebecca  and @Elisa  and we are thrilled to have you join us.

Let's kickstart this thread with a little about us Community Managers:

@Quincy : I'm from the Netherlands ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฑ I have been on the Community Center for 6+ years, and have been an Airbnb Host myself. I love cycling๐Ÿšฒ, playing footballโšฝ, and travelling๐ŸŒ . I love how dynamic and diverse the Community Center is as we meet Hosts from all around the globe.

@Bhumika ๐ŸŒ I was born in Gujarat, India ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ , and shifted to Toronto, Canada ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ last year! ๐Ÿ“ท I recently realized my love for photography and aesthetics. I love to capture mundane life and candid pictures. ๐ŸŒ† When I'm not working, you'll find me binge-watching thriller movies or exploring history.

@Paula : I am from Colombia ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ด and currently living in British Columbia, Canada ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ. I have a passion for Latin American culture (I love to dance ๐Ÿ’ƒ) . I've had the opportunity to visit around 20 countries ๐ŸŒŽ and plan to visit many more. In my free time, I enjoy outdoor activities, especially mountain biking ๐Ÿšฒ and hiking ๐Ÿ”.

@Rebecca : I'm from Cardiff in Wales originally but being a military child and a veterans spouse, I've travelled and lived in a lot of different places in the UK and Europe. I'm an environmentalist ๐ŸŒฟ and like to minimise my impact on the planet ๐ŸŒŽ as well as volunteering in my local community.  I love sea swimming ๐ŸŒŠ yoga on the beach ๐Ÿง˜โ€ and I'm a children's yoga instructor too! ๐Ÿ™Œ

@Elisa : I was born in Italy ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น and as a lover of unique experiencesโ€”from exploring the streets of Rome๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น , Paris ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท, and Toronto ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ to appreciating timeless art and cuisineโ€”I'm here to blend the old with the new.

Now it's your turn! Tell us a bit about yourself. Where are you from? And is there something special about the location of your accommodation that you'd like to share?

Looking forward to getting to know you all!

Warm regards,

Bhumika

@Quincy: ๐Ÿ‘‹

We are approachable,  friendly and helpful.

Some of the attractions that I enjoy and trust that visitors will also, are namely:

Dunns River Falls in St. Ann, an adventurous climb from bottom to top, best aided by a tour guide.

Castle Botanical Gardens in St. Mary, which also includes a river as a combo.

James Bond โ›ฑ in St. Mary to enjoy the sunshine ๐ŸŒž and relax.

Hello All,

I'm Amber. I am originally from New England (East Coast), USA ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฒ, but currently live in NE Ohio.

I'm an avid reader, writer, editor, and do substantial magazine and newspaper writing for communities.

In my spare time I love to cook, (read more), draw, kayak, travel, and meet new people.

I'm an empty nester-ish with a hospitality management background and some time on my hands. I joined Airbnb after my dog died (she was a rescue and fearful of people).

I love my home and after seeing my neighbor do it, I thought I would just start. Its already been very rewarding to help others and do what I love (make people feel at home).

Thank you so much, Paula!

I was on live for less than I week I believe and have had 4 inquiries and 3 bookings so far.

The experience has been good. I was very nervous. There are so many scams out there to watch for, with this also being electronic I was nervous so I decided to ask my mentor a couple of questions as soon as I got my first inquiry! He was amazing

Bill was so supportive and gave me a couple of tips. (Even during set up online, he was helpful.)

It's interesting... I know I am in a location where it's hard to find good accommodations and proximity to needs combined, but who knew I'd be helping locals first during home remodels or visits back to the area.

Wow, @Amber-Jeanne0, securing 3 bookings in your first week hosting is a significant milestone! Congratulations! Even as a newcomer to the platform, itโ€™s clear you have a wealth of knowledge about the hospitality industry. If you could share your top 3 tips for a great start on Airbnb, what would they be? ๐ŸŒŸ

I also wanted to express my sympathy regarding your dog. I am very sorry. For me, my dogs are an important part of my family as well ๐Ÿ’—

You are so sweet, @Paula.

Thank you! It was my first and only dog (foster failure here โœ‹๐Ÿผlol she rescued me though ๐Ÿ’•โค๏ธโ€๐Ÿฉน).

So my top 3 tips for a great start as a newbie on Airbnb would be (they'll be more as I go):

1. Do your research.

-Be a guest somewhere else a few times (it's a great perspective). I had hotel management and travel experience, so I knew on a high level what I was doing (which is fun to add those premium touches that a concierge would of I needed something I forgot at home), however the personal Airbnb experiences over the past couple of years helped me to understand the inner workings of being a guest at an establishment such as these.

- Read everything that Airbnb provides for you.

There's plenty of clear instructions, tools and guidance, plus I just found the community today so that was exciting.

-Do searches of other Airbnb rentals in your neighborhood (or in the vicinity- city wise). This is not necessarily for you to use for you to ramp up your Airbnb, but more so for valuable insight into other Airbnb comparisons like yours. You get insight into what they offer, how they price, and quickly know what not to do or what guests appreciate via the reviews.

2. Let Airbnb set your main rental price to start out, then add your own reasonable cleaning fees (my pet fees are too low because I didn't set it the way I wanted to, but it's next on the list). Anything I have ever sold, sells.  I do believe pricing for the value is key.

3. Most importantly, and if you do anything BEST, be honest.

-My Airbnb is a spare room in my basement. It was my daughter's room which I updated a little bit. We have one bathroom. None of this is 5-star, but it's charming, clean, and we are hospitable. Our location is the bomb (best neighborhood in the city and we are local to anything and everything including main highways, though it's quiet here with walking for people and dogs near the lake).

Be honest because they're going to see it anyway, and we all know we very much dislike being misled.

-My guests are more comfortable knowing in advance what the situation is. Whether or not it's what they want, at least they aren't facing any surprises when they get here. They know before they book.

(Be sure to highlight the greatest things about your Airbnb or the area as well.)

A Bonus?
Be hospitable.
1. If you're just starting out, but never worked in hospitality, an EXCELLENT ATTITUDE & CUSTOMER SERVICE will go a long way โ˜บ๏ธ. Be available to them from the start to the end. Even if you can't rectify something immediately, at least they know your response time kicks and that tells them you care about them.

2. You're always going to miss something.

Don't panic, just make a note for the next time someone books with you.

If you do the above, and take care of safety first, then work down the line on the list making sure it's clean, comfortable, and things work, you should do great.

That's the least we can do for our guests and often those are their top concerns.

Hi Everyone!

My preferred name is DeeDee, although Iโ€™ll show up on here under my legal name.  I have been a nurse ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿปโ€โš•๏ธ since 2012, and Iโ€™m currently a travel nurse in the operating room.  Iโ€™m currently on assignment in IL, however my primary state of residence is Florida.  I am slowly transitioning into renting out my homes and hope to do it as a means to retire from nursing.  I started renting out my first place in Naples, Florida ๐ŸŒด as a mid-term rental.  Recently, I purchased my second home in Clearwater, Florida ๐ŸŒด and I recently listed it as a STR.  I hope to learn much from seasoned and novice hosts as I believe learning is a life-long journey.

I love traveling โœˆ๏ธ, trying new restaurants ๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿฅ˜๐Ÿฒ๐Ÿ๐Ÿฃ๐Ÿณ, playing random games โ›ณ๏ธ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ, โ™Ÿ๏ธ๐Ÿ๐Ÿงฉ๐ŸŽฐ, and listening to my 5 (and three quarters) year old son sing the song โ€œItโ€™s Raining Tacos.โ€

Thereโ€™s much to learn regarding how I can optimize my listings as I am managing them remotely with an incredible cleaning crew in both cities.  I also have a handyman in Naples, and an incredible neighbor in Clearwater that look after anything my places need since Iโ€™m in another state.  When I I been contracts, I do go home to stay in my places if they are available.

I canโ€™t wait to learn and grow with you all!
