Hello everyone! ๐
Welcome to the Community Center! ๐ I'm @Bhumika , one of the Community Managers for our English Community Center along with my lovely team members @Quincy @Paula @Rebecca and @Elisa and we are thrilled to have you join us.
Let's kickstart this thread with a little about us Community Managers:
@Quincy : I'm from the Netherlands ๐ณ๐ฑ I have been on the Community Center for 6+ years, and have been an Airbnb Host myself. I love cycling๐ฒ, playing footballโฝ, and travelling๐ . I love how dynamic and diverse the Community Center is as we meet Hosts from all around the globe.
@Bhumika : ๐ I was born in Gujarat, India ๐ฎ๐ณ , and shifted to Toronto, Canada ๐จ๐ฆ last year! ๐ท I recently realized my love for photography and aesthetics. I love to capture mundane life and candid pictures. ๐ When I'm not working, you'll find me binge-watching thriller movies or exploring history.
@Paula : I am from Colombia ๐จ๐ด and currently living in British Columbia, Canada ๐จ๐ฆ. I have a passion for Latin American culture (I love to dance ๐) . I've had the opportunity to visit around 20 countries ๐ and plan to visit many more. In my free time, I enjoy outdoor activities, especially mountain biking ๐ฒ and hiking ๐.
@Rebecca : I'm from Cardiff in Wales originally but being a military child and a veterans spouse, I've travelled and lived in a lot of different places in the UK and Europe. I'm an environmentalist ๐ฟ and like to minimise my impact on the planet ๐ as well as volunteering in my local community. I love sea swimming ๐ yoga on the beach ๐งโ and I'm a children's yoga instructor too! ๐
@Elisa : I was born in Italy ๐ฎ๐น and as a lover of unique experiencesโfrom exploring the streets of Rome๐ฎ๐น , Paris ๐ซ๐ท, and Toronto ๐จ๐ฆ to appreciating timeless art and cuisineโI'm here to blend the old with the new.
Now it's your turn! Tell us a bit about yourself. Where are you from? And is there something special about the location of your accommodation that you'd like to share?
Looking forward to getting to know you all!
Warm regards,
Bhumika
Thank you so much, Paula!
I was on live for less than I week I believe and have had 4 inquiries and 3 bookings so far.
The experience has been good. I was very nervous. There are so many scams out there to watch for, with this also being electronic I was nervous so I decided to ask my mentor a couple of questions as soon as I got my first inquiry! He was amazing
Bill was so supportive and gave me a couple of tips. (Even during set up online, he was helpful.)
It's interesting... I know I am in a location where it's hard to find good accommodations and proximity to needs combined, but who knew I'd be helping locals first during home remodels or visits back to the area.
Amber
Wow, @Amber-Jeanne0, securing 3 bookings in your first week hosting is a significant milestone! Congratulations! Even as a newcomer to the platform, itโs clear you have a wealth of knowledge about the hospitality industry. If you could share your top 3 tips for a great start on Airbnb, what would they be? ๐
I also wanted to express my sympathy regarding your dog. I am very sorry. For me, my dogs are an important part of my family as well ๐
You are so sweet, @Paula.
Thank you! It was my first and only dog (foster failure here โ๐ผlol she rescued me though ๐โค๏ธโ๐ฉน).
So my top 3 tips for a great start as a newbie on Airbnb would be (they'll be more as I go):
1. Do your research.
-Be a guest somewhere else a few times (it's a great perspective). I had hotel management and travel experience, so I knew on a high level what I was doing (which is fun to add those premium touches that a concierge would of I needed something I forgot at home), however the personal Airbnb experiences over the past couple of years helped me to understand the inner workings of being a guest at an establishment such as these.
- Read everything that Airbnb provides for you.
There's plenty of clear instructions, tools and guidance, plus I just found the community today so that was exciting.
-Do searches of other Airbnb rentals in your neighborhood (or in the vicinity- city wise). This is not necessarily for you to use for you to ramp up your Airbnb, but more so for valuable insight into other Airbnb comparisons like yours. You get insight into what they offer, how they price, and quickly know what not to do or what guests appreciate via the reviews.
2. Let Airbnb set your main rental price to start out, then add your own reasonable cleaning fees (my pet fees are too low because I didn't set it the way I wanted to, but it's next on the list). Anything I have ever sold, sells. I do believe pricing for the value is key.
3. Most importantly, and if you do anything BEST, be honest.
-My Airbnb is a spare room in my basement. It was my daughter's room which I updated a little bit. We have one bathroom. None of this is 5-star, but it's charming, clean, and we are hospitable. Our location is the bomb (best neighborhood in the city and we are local to anything and everything including main highways, though it's quiet here with walking for people and dogs near the lake).
Be honest because they're going to see it anyway, and we all know we very much dislike being misled.
-My guests are more comfortable knowing in advance what the situation is. Whether or not it's what they want, at least they aren't facing any surprises when they get here. They know before they book.
(Be sure to highlight the greatest things about your Airbnb or the area as well.)
A Bonus?
Be hospitable.
1. If you're just starting out, but never worked in hospitality, an EXCELLENT ATTITUDE & CUSTOMER SERVICE will go a long way โบ๏ธ. Be available to them from the start to the end. Even if you can't rectify something immediately, at least they know your response time kicks and that tells them you care about them.
2. You're always going to miss something.
Don't panic, just make a note for the next time someone books with you.
If you do the above, and take care of safety first, then work down the line on the list making sure it's clean, comfortable, and things work, you should do great.
That's the least we can do for our guests and often those are their top concerns.
Wow @Amber-Jeanne0 these tips are absolutely fantastic! We truly appreciate you taking the time to share such valuable insights with us. To give your advice more visibility, it would be wonderful to see these tips in a new thread, so that our new hosts can easily find and benefit from them.
Would you mind copying and pasting this information into a ๐new post here?
We look forward to hearing from you! ๐ป
Hi Paula,
I'm so glad it is helpful information. I'd be happy to copy and paste these tips into a fresh post! โบ๏ธ
Thanks for the opportunity to share and I appreciate the community platform.

Hi @Tammy715 ๐
Welcome to the community!
Itโs wonderful to hear about your successful hosting journey!
Whatโs one of your favorite memories or experiences from hosting guests in either location?
Warm regards๐ป,

Hi Everyone!
My preferred name is DeeDee, although Iโll show up on here under my legal name. I have been a nurse ๐ฉ๐ปโโ๏ธ since 2012, and Iโm currently a travel nurse in the operating room. Iโm currently on assignment in IL, however my primary state of residence is Florida. I am slowly transitioning into renting out my homes and hope to do it as a means to retire from nursing. I started renting out my first place in Naples, Florida ๐ด as a mid-term rental. Recently, I purchased my second home in Clearwater, Florida ๐ด and I recently listed it as a STR. I hope to learn much from seasoned and novice hosts as I believe learning is a life-long journey.
I love traveling โ๏ธ, trying new restaurants ๐ฑ๐ฅ๐ฒ๐๐ฃ๐ณ, playing random games โณ๏ธ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ, โ๏ธ๐๐งฉ๐ฐ, and listening to my 5 (and three quarters) year old son sing the song โItโs Raining Tacos.โ
Thereโs much to learn regarding how I can optimize my listings as I am managing them remotely with an incredible cleaning crew in both cities. I also have a handyman in Naples, and an incredible neighbor in Clearwater that look after anything my places need since Iโm in another state. When I I been contracts, I do go home to stay in my places if they are available.
I canโt wait to learn and grow with you all!
Hi @Mamedie0 ๐
We are happy to have you here!
Itโs wonderful to learn about your journey from nursing to hosting. ๐
As you continue to grow in your hosting journey, what are some of the most rewarding or challenging aspects youโve encountered so far?
-----
Hi! Thank you for your kind welcome!
So far, I think trying to figure out how to set rates/fees for my listing has been a challengeโฆand how to attract a clientele that is respectful of my home.
Past experiences (minus the current one Iโm dealing with) have been extremely rewarding, and have led to repeat guests, which I love! I also enjoy supporting other hosts by using the platform to book stays when traveling. I love seeing what other hosts are doing with their Airbnbs, and how I can improve my own listings.
Hello Everyone,
I am Nnem. I currently live in Las Vegas, Nevada and have been hosting for sometime. Iโm looking to meet other host and learn new ways to become a better host. I recently starting listening to audiobooks and enjoy traveling.
Hi @Nnem353 ๐
Welcome to the community!
I love audiobooks too, theyโre a great way to save time and learn quickly.
How is hosting in Las Vegas? ๐
Warm regards ๐ป,

Hi I'm Darren self employed handyman/labourer from Nottinghamshire I down to earth easy to get on with I rent my spare room due to many financial complications
Hi @Darren481
Welcome to the community, itโs great to meet you! ๐
Renting out your spare room sounds like a practical step given the circumstances.
How is your experience going so far?
Warm regards ๐ป,

Hi I have removed my listing as I have decided to get a full time lodger instead as I'm not too comfortable having different ppl staying at different times as I'm sure that would also annoy my neighbours
