One room or two - a delicate question!

Hi there,

Hoping for some advice. I offer two rooms as part of my Airbnb listing - a double and a single, and as a result, I can accommodate up to three people.

Normally ahead of two or more guests arriving, I will send them the following message. Unless they tell me in their introductory message they are a couple, then I'll assume they will share a bed.

"Hi XXX, I'm looking forward to meeting you tomorrow.

I have a double bed and a single mattress. I just need to know, for when I arrange the rooms, are you happy to share a room/bed with your travel companions, or would you like to sleep in separate rooms?

Also, what time roughly do you anticipate arriving? No worry if you don't know yet. I will message you once my previous guest has checked out, and the space is ready for you.

Nick"

I was just wondering if anyone can think of a slightly less clumsy way of asking people if they want to share the same bed! Or am I being too hard on myself? Sometimes it feels like I'm being a bit intrusive in the way I ask.

If I don't hear back from a guest, I would prepare a second room by default. But perhaps I should offer a second room without asking, and as standard anyway as it 'exceeds expectations' as it were.

Love to hear your thoughts,

- Nick

@Nick1866, I have a 3 bedroom home and we always have all beds ready for anyone to sleep in (even if only two people book). I would never ask someone if they plan to share one bed, even if they say they are a couple. Always have both ready to be used unless there is an extra fee to use the second room, in which case, you need to know so you can charge accordingly.

I think it is a little odd to ask. Also they may not know before their stay, maybe they would use both or maybe they get into an argument during their stay & one ends up sleeping in the other room.

If you are still concerned about making both beds if they may not be using both, you can make two different listings, a more expensive one with both  rooms & one with only the one & you would lock off the other room so you wouldn’t need to make both beds.
