Pet fee

Pet fee

I can't understand why airbnb has set a pet fee as a one time charge?  Do they not understand that if I set a fee of 10$/night and every single guest that books with a pet is going to have an issue with the host as he/she is going to have to collect the rest of the guests nights fees and the guest will rightfully be angry.  If that is the objective then a fee per trip is the way to accomplish that.  There is no other logical way, as a host, to set a pet fee other than per night.  How do we get airbnb's attention on this short sighted app update?  Is there a change in the works.  I find this issue incredibly frustrating .  thanks

@John89  You can use the resolution center to charge guests a pet fee as before. Their new system is absurd.

Yes I’m aware of this option but it i am finding it arduous to keep track of all the guests and their pets. This feature was supposed to make it simpler but instead made it an accounting headache with the real potential of pissing off guests. That’s why I can’t wrap my head around what it was that airbnb was trying to accomplish. Personally I see it as a reason for guest to go to a competitor. Vrbo

@John89  What Airbnb was trying to accomplish was making things easy on guests, I imagine, just like most of their other pollicies and things they try to push hosts into.

John89 I’m with you totally. So on another rental site I set the per day/ per pet fee. I charge 25 a day per pet (like the extra guest fee). Someone bringing 2 dogs 6 days 300. On Airbnb 60 dollars 1 pet or 90 pets. 1 day or 90 days. You have to know that they know this and realize that we’ll charge low for a one time fee. Please the guests. Please the guests. At the expense of hosts! Now what I’m doing is putting 0 and adding a line next to where we say we accept pets telling them I will send them a request for pet fee or they can pay me when they get here. This kind of treatment towards hosts will backfire on them. There used to be 30 hosts in a 2 block radius. Now there’s 7. The old uncomplicated model was the best. Always is then it gets too complicated and goes away.

Exactly. I can’t for the life of me, understand how airbnb doesn’t see that the method they are using is a lose lose scenario. There is no upside to that practice, when you factor in the complaints/unhappy guests or hosts. Makes no sense. I HATE chasing down and accounting for the extra pet fee.
