Privacy Issues with rentals

Our neighbor recently became a host, wouldnt be a problem except the entire casita they are renting has a direct view into my bedroom where me and my wife get dressed. Is there some sort of responsible host code or rule that talks about the privacy of your neighbors ? Weve been living in our house for 10 years and the last month we have felt like gold fish in a fish bowl while in our bedroom.  Any help or information is appreciated.

@Thomas2983  What kind of outcome would you be looking for?  You want your neighbor to keep his casita empty because its too close to your bedroom?  You want Airbnb to prevent him from renting the unit [which wouldn't prevent him from renting it elsewhere or putting a family member there]?

Unless the structure was recently built or is in some way not following the building code, I think the best you could do is ask them to put up some heavy curtains or blinds and you would do the same.  There must be millions of houses/apartments where the windows are in close proximity to each other, usually addressed by some type of window covering.

There is no need to answer with the same answer about good neighbor policy that you have already posted several times.

I think you have your answer from the others, which doesn't help you necessarily. You may want to consider frosting or staining your windows so you can allow light in without people seeing inside. Another option if you have space is to put in some kind of hedge, trellis, sunshade or other attractive feature that obscures the view of your window but still allows you to keep a view.

We live very far from our neighbors so we don't even have blinds, but a few years ago we built a house for my mom. Her front porch is ten feet from my bathroom window where our cats like to sit and watch the birds. My mother doesn't have visitors so it's not a problem now, but when the day comes that we are using it for a vacation rental (hopefully a long time from now) we'll have to come up with a solution. I'm thinking about frosting the window in a diamond pattern so the casual observer won't see in, but the cats can still peek outside.

@Thomas2983   If you have enough room outside of the bedroom window, I would suggest a planter box privacy screen.  You can purchase simple ones online or at Home Depot.  You can double the length and height as needed.
