Security deposit

Hi dears

i have a question is it acceptable to collect security deposit in check in date and refunded on check out date in cash if nothing damage 

i have bad experience happened today guest booked for a month from first of December i agreed with him about all details before I accept booking and he approved also i mentioned in house rules there’s a insurance will be collected 

after his mother and brother attended they thought Apartment 3 bedrooms and they told me will check in tomorrow 

after that he sent to airbnb informed them host want to collect security deposit cash and this is not acceptable and asked to cancel

 ow they are going to cancel with fully refund for guest while cancellation policy restricted 

anyone can advise

I can imagine that after a bad experience you are worried that you may suffer damage through a guests negligence but unless you use a Channel Manager, hosts cannot ask for deposits - it's against Airbnb rules.  See link below:

So, it looks like your guests knows about this restriction and even if they have gone over your free cancellation period, Airbnb has ruled that they can cancel free of charge because of your deposit request.
