Should I get a refund?

Should I get a refund?

Hello I’m new to Airbnb. When we arrived to the Airbnb nothing worked. There’s no warm water the gas stove doesn’t start and the washing machine, tv. Even though in the apartment description everything is included. I contacted the host and they came tried to find a solution but couldn’t fix anything. The host said they would come tomorrow again and try to solve it. They are also very slow at responding. In the end of the day(today) they offered me 20% return. But I think it’s very low considering nothing works. Also I’m staying here only for 5 days. What should I do? Should I wait until tomorrow and hope they fix everything?

@Marsel6  If the host has a lot of other reviews from other apartments and this one is new then i guess he is managing other people apartments or he has an agency and he didn't properly check the apartment before taking it

You did the right thing and contacted the host first.

Anyway, thats a lot of malfunctioning appliances and you have 24 hours deadline so if they are not  fixed you should contact airbnb, ask them to cancel and refund you, you should move out and relocate.

if you cannot find another place to stay within your budget then the only option is to negotiate discount with your host. The stove could be replaced with a portable induction cooktop and microwave, Tv with Netflix, but without the fridge and warm water your stay is closer to camping experience than the actual apartment 🙂

Did you check electric fuse and gas valve? I would check them first.

@Marsel6

As the host has many other listings (with good reviews) have you asked him to move you to one of those, where everything is working?

To people (not counting OP who seems to be new and young with all that follows) - you need to learn to LISTEN to OTHER people's opinions. Not everyone will or should agree with YOUR opinion, even eloquently expressed. This IS what is WRONG with the world today - people THINK that everyone who is not thinking like they do is wrong and a bad person, instead of trying to make the world a less of a bad place one good deed at a time.

Now - once upon a time I walked into Airbnb where place stunk to high haven, shower had no hot water and AC was dead. Host (who was NOT there) came in, looked like he was just managing, acted surprised, apologized in the nicest possible terms and said "I'll fix everything tomorrow"

I took pictures, took video of hot water not steaming after showing that hot water handle was turned for 10 minutes, turned around, called credit card from the car, put chargeback on, called my laywer who wrote airbnb and the end of story was that .... you guessed it.

I have self respect - and if someone (like that unscrupulous host I run into) has the audacity to lie into my face promising to fix things that can't be fixed in one day and moreover - had to be KNOWN (one thing can skip attention - multiple -- that is intention to defraud).
So, I stick with my initial assessment that things do not add up because no person will stay for 10 minutes in the place described (don't tell me "there was nowhere to go") and everyone has the right to agree or not - and I will refrain from calling people who disagree with me names.

Be well and stay classy San Diego

@David8879 Totally agree with your assessment.

David from San Diego. You are pretty egotistical person who doesn’t understand other people situation first I asked for advise in this situation and not for nonsense like this is fake situation. Second OF COURSE if I was alone I would have stayed there. But even then there’s a lot of issues I’m in small city now, in another country, no car, no people we know, language barrier, there are Airbnb with no reviews and super expensive hotels that are clearly not worth it because we are staying only for 5 days. Also you are again saying nonsense like no person would stay. The problems were not clear from the start. The apartment is clean the view is amazing and it was easy to check in. Also like I said I’m new to Airbnb and didn’t know we could get our money back. Also The host was promising me all the time everything will get solved and he’s deeply sorry. He solved today the issue with gas stove and water. There are still problems but a lot less of them. Also the host doesn’t know a thing about the apartment because it’s someone elses house. I still don’t understand why are you acting like a childish teenager that can’t admit he’s wrong and the world resolves around you. Be well stay cool 🙂 Marsel P.S The world has not become a better place with making internet’s so accessible

@Marsel6 everyone is new to Airbnb at some point, even hosts 😉

Glad to hear the main issues have been sorted and that your host is keen to assist.  Enjoy the  rest  of your stay and I hope you have a great time despite the initial hiccups.
