We have rediscovered the joy of meeting a new generation of people from around the world.
To put it in context we have to do Airbnb to help make ends meet, but when we were first married with young kids we used to host foreign exchange students and our kids (now grown up) benefiited (I think) enormously from meeting people from other cultures.
Now that we are older we ourselves are meeting the international "next generation", and it's an eye-opener. They are like we were, but instead of fearing nuclear Armageddon as we were in the 1980s they are worried about climate change and global stuff.
We are meeting the nicest people on Airbnb. How about you?
So Sarah, could you Please tell me how to fold a fitted sheet?!! I am in my late 60’s and I still have not mastered this!!
@Marta794 Well, my friend who taught me manages to do it holding it in up the air, but I'm too klutzy at it to be able to do this, I have to lay it out on the bed or a big table. You take the top of the sewn corners and stretch them out so the part that would go around the sides and underneath of the bed are folded in on top. You smooth those out flat, then proceed to fold up the rest of the sheet , keeping those parts you folded in as flat as possible. It's easier with fitted sheets that only have the elastic in the corners, rather than all the way around.
But my friend did it by simply folding the sheet in half, sticking her hands up in the sewn corners (you have 2 layers of sheet around each hand) giving it a shake, and then folding it all up. Her linen cupboard looks like a store shelf 🙂
I think @Sarah977 if you could make a new topic just about how to fold a fitted sheet, we would have thousands of enlightened users, myself included...
@Stephanie I'm still not very good at it 🙂 I've never looked, but I'd bet there's a youtube video out there on it, there seems to be a youtube video on almost everything.
Hi all.......I've gained the joy of knowing if I find out you're an ass, I don't have you on a yr's lease an have to live with it, I don't even have to walk out at 11am an say ba bye if I choose not to. I do like the dollars that have helped pay the property taxes, an that I'd love to have a second place to rent. I've enjoyed meeting just about ever single guest I've hosted, with the exception of a handful that I hope to never ever see again, it's been Great.!!
I am new to this as of June this year. I absolutely love it! And the extra income. I never expected to be so busy but people stop in for so many reasons. Right now I have a hunter couple with 5 weinerrimers (or however you spell it lol) they are beautiful dogs. I think being open to dogs is a huge plus for us and having their own space downstairs too. Most of the places in town are just single bedrooms. Ours is a whole suite. The biggest hit is our basket of goodies we leave for the guests. I would love to do wine but am not sure if I should leave it out for every guest. Was thinking of doing home bottled wine with our own labels. Anyone else do this? Also if you display artwork do you give the guest the opportunity to purchase them? If so how?
Weimaraners? Nice dogs.
Hi Sandy. We do a bottle of red for the counter ( next to a bowl of fruit) a bottle of Chardonnay in the fridge along with a bottle of local beer. I usually leave a plate of muffins or pastries next to the coffee machine. What do you leave in your basket of goodies? I’m starting to run out of ideas. Our guest, whether they drink or not, appreciate the thought immensely!! If they don’t drink it, the next guest usually do.
I'm at newbie @Kevin132 and have enjoyed the guests, except for one group out of 7 groups that we have hosted. I like the business end of it as well. I'd like to know where your beautiful home is that is in your photograph....what a lovely place to stay! Thanks for the info!
@Rosalind41 The home in the photo is not Kevin's - it's a generic photo which Admin @Stephanie added.
@Helen350 can change it to one of @Kevin1322 's image if he would like to nominate one!
Got it!
