Why did Airbnb eliminate from the categories list Guesthouse* Studio* Cottage* ?
Those 3 traditional summer vacation rental types are recognized globally. They all
were presented in the previous format in the Types section which was about a dozen-
now there are 56 categories (types) and they are gone. Gone too are my Guesthouse
Studio Cottage listings from search function. Hosting since 2013 and it keeps getting
weirder.
If I put my area in then try to search by category 'shepherds hut' it is not an option. So nobody can search for shepherds huts if they want yo stay on one.
Air BnB also removed shepherds huts from unique stays I think over 3 weeks ago. I have had no bookings in this time because nobody can find me.
To say I'm livid is an understatement. I am losing money, I should be booked out for the summer but I am getting nothing.
@Helen609 A bit rich to blame an update that is only a few days old for your lack of summer bookings. I think the whole UK is down at present with Brits travelling abroad not being replaced, as yet, with foreigners visiting the UK. Also I suspect the prices may have to reduce after a bumper year last year.
Well, it's a bit of a coincidence that my listing has been invisible for 3 weeks and I've had no bookings for 3 weeks wouldn't you say?
You literally can't find my listing any more. That is what is ' a bit rich'.
@Jenny, @Sybe
To add go the discussion, my Cottage is now listed as a Cabin. It is not. It is a fully functional Cottage seasonally from April thru October.
I didn't know about Shepherds Huts being removed a while ago. That explains a lot. We have had no enquiries or requests for a while which was worrying but I put it down to the living expenses crisis, war and nobody having any money to spare for holidays.
I have just posted in Hosting about the new "Split your stay" feature. The inaccuracies of this are just mind blowing and more worryingly could be seen as false advertising ! Also headlines and first pictures have changed. Surely us as hosts should decid which is the best photo and headline to advertise our property ?
You'll find quite a lot of discussion about the split stays feature here: https://community.withairbnb.com/t5/Airbnb-Updates/Tools-you-can-use-for-hosting-longer-stays/td-p/1...
If I were a new user to Airbnb, simply looking for a place to stay, and I saw the homepage? I'd immediately think, "Oh, this is not a booking site. This is some luxury, elite site for fancy places to vacation."
Is this really how they want to market themselves?
@Jenny, I just tried searching the "Beaches" category in my area looking for my place and it brought up this very odd descriptor, under every listing for Kailua-Kona: 'Beans Beach.' What on earth is a Beans Beach?
I have lived here for 30 years and I can assure you there is no such thing as a Beans Beach on the Big Island of Hawaii. (Although there used to be a fun booze cruise called "Captain Beans." ) 😂
@Jenny , Here's another error I see in the search/mapping. These three listings are described as being in "49 Black Sand Beach" which is an exclusive area of Mauna Lani Resort. It is NOT located in Waikoloa Village, Waimea or Puako as indicated here.
If you are not familiar with the Big Island you are going to get very mislead here. I have only looked at a couple of pages and see errors with our island. With all due respect, this search seems like a bit of a hot mess. Isn't the whole point to direct travelers to an accurate location?
Hi @Kristina46
Thanks for making me aware of this.
I've passed along your feedback to Airbnb as this sounds like it will cause confusion! Sorry that I can't do anything more practical but by passing along what you've told me, I can at least make sure it gets looked at.
Jenny
I see that pets has been moved too, so you can no longer filter for "pet friendly" and instead add a pet as a guest, makes sense, I like it that pets are now listed as a guest, although just had a guest enquiry and they thought the option had disappeared.
I'm not sure why you both have a counter for pets, it goes up to 5! i have no way to limit the number of pets, and of course, as discussed often, no way to charge for multiple pets. That would have been a new feature we hosts would have appreciated.
Hi @Gillian166
Thanks for the feedback and your suggestion - it's much appreciated.
I've passed it along to the team as that does sound like a useful feature.
Jenny
thanks @Jenny
would love to have the option to charge for pets like we can for guests.
and, be able to limit the number of pets. We are on the farm so plenty of space but even I would draw the line at 5 dogs!!
I've updated your feedback to include this most recent comment @Gillian166 - I can only imagine the kind of chaos that would result from five dogs!
