@Roy-And-Patti0 and @Pilar1 , congrats, I hope you get the money.  Im a little far down the line to be in the shortlist but its good to see others that get a chance at it.  Please do let us know if you get it, it shouldn't create a jealous response, we should be happy for you!   Good luck and gods blessings on getting Brians Money!!!!!  (just a little play on the old game show , Win Ben Steins Money"), JR

It's just so sad that many hosts lost their homes and livelihood exhibiting such great necessity without any support and others get new computers and laundry equipment... Part of the SuperHost fund criteria was to 'Show a reliance on Airbnb as a vital source of income' which, so vital in the cases of lost homes, the hosts no longer have a home to host. As @Stephanie posted previously "Then we use hosts’ responses in their applications to better understand how that decrease has affected their ability to make ends meet." https://community.withairbnb.com/t5/Hosting/A-progress-update-on-the-Superhost-Relief-Fund/m-p/12980...

How vital white goods are, and the ability to send high resolution puppy pics would be debatable in the face of such extreme losses and inability to 'make ends meet', those hosts in desperate needs must just never have been given any opportunity, it just seems disingenuous to celebrate any grant that didn't save livelihoods or prevent hosts becoming homeless as witnessed by posts seen here on this CC. Not even the SuperHost Grant page publishes such overtly deserving cases.

Any deserved award of the SuperHost Grant would truly be applauded, perhaps they might come to light.

@Ian-And-Anne-Marie0 Yes, I was shocked to see reports of computers & washing machines being purchased. - I'd hoped & assumed the grants would be going to home owners who needed money for more basic necessities like mortgages & utility bills, or food! And I remember @Helen3 making excellent points about the needs of some (not all) hosts in developing countries. (Not bitter, I'm grateful personally to have just about broken even with my trickle of regulars during lockdown, no profit, but just covered the bills, so by my own criteria I didn't qualify!)

@Helen350

I've read the plights of many hosts over the last few months with truly deserved cases, who received nothing, and were not able to even administer their contracted cancellation policy to help their situation. Those hosts would be the ones more worthy of being in receipt of a grant in order to "make ends meet".

Examples of media linked hosts with multi-listings, hosts with other supportive businesses and multi listings and who are astonished at being granted anything - all point to the same failure in Airbnb policy to correctly identify real "needy" hosts and satisfy that "reliance on Airbnb as a vital source of income".  Those grants to those hosts didn't accidentally happen, and scrutiny of their applications must have been a done deal rather than an evaluation.

It's not Hosts fault that they received a grant of any sort, just the mis-justice that so many other cases were far more deserving.

@Ian-And-Anne-Marie0 @Helen350  Well, if you start out with the false assumption that the % of earnings lost between last year and this is the way to determine "need", as Airbnb did, then it's not at all surprising that the highest earners, whether they were truly in need, as in not being able to pay their mortgage of pay their utility bills, would have been the ones to receive the grants.

It is pretty disgusting that hosts who weren't in such dire straights, so that they could use the grants for new appliances or new devices, received grants, while hosts who were having trouble putting food on the table, or face losing their homes, didn't.
