VAT Liability for Host vs CoHosts

Hi, tried to find a definitive answers to this but struggling... Total revenue from bookings (Incl cleaning)  are getting close to the VAT line, I've been advised that using the VAT flat rate scheme will be best.  However, My co-hosts to manage everything believe that if I set them up to take full payment instead of me, I can then invoice them for my share, they said its called "apportionment", meaning I would fall below the VAT line.  Is this correct? My accountant seems to think so, but the guy at HMRC said the total sales turnover fall as my responsibility to declare as income.
