@Linda3487 Could you give a bit more detail? Hard to answer such a vague question.
Also, you shouldn't post your email address here- it's a security risk and no one here is going to email you. Answers to questions will be given here on the thread you started.
Guest requested to be upgraded to another unit however on receiving the request from me they declined the request.
Is the guest charged for rejecting the upgrade or do they keep their original reservation?
If you sent the guest the upgrade by using the "change" option on the current reservation:
If the guest declines the change request (or let it expire) they keep the original reservation.
(But would be nice if they communicate the reason for rejecting, as they initially requested the upgrade themself).
Thank you for your feedback it was helpful.
I would have expected it to be the case but had to confirm.
The guest was aware that there would be an additional charge however her husband didn't want to upgrade hence it was rejected it a case of miscommunication between the couple.
No further comment is required ass my answer has been answered.
Thanks for your response
"The guest needs to book the new listing, and cancel the old listing. "
This is not neccesary / recommended: the "change" option on a reservation will do the job.
I frequently switch guests to other accommodation, "change" option works fine, also when a reservation has already started.
@Linda3487 "on receiving the request from me they declined the request."
What do you mean by "request from me"? This still isn't a clear explanation.
If a guest has booked one of your listings, and they don't want it, they need to cancel and rebook the other listing. If they want to keep the booking they have already made, they do nothing.
The "change" option on a reservation can also be used to change accommodation (from same host)
Yes, this is correct. I a guest wants to move from one of my private rooms to a different one in my house, then it's perfectly possible to send an alteration request to do so. It takes about 30 seconds and all the guest needs to do is accept. If there is a price difference, that should be reflected in the alteration request.
I have done this several times before when guests booked one room and then later saw one of my other rooms and decided they liked the look of the second one better. There is no need to cancel and rebook (and therefore possibly face cancellation penalties)
@Huma0 So how do the dates for the room they booked get opened back up and dates for the room they want get blocked?
It simply transfers the booking from one room to another. Once the guest accepts, the original room has its calendar unblocked.
It works in the same way as changing the number of nights or number of guests. It's really quite straightforward.
The only thing I have found that you need to watch is that the Airbnb system does not miscalculate the price. For example, for a long time, there was a glitch whereby if you changed the number of nights or guests for a long term booking, the system would recalculate it WITHOUT the long term discount. I did not realise this until a guest who had booked for six months wanted to check in two nights earlier. Airbnb charged her nearly £1,500 extra for those two nights!
I had to speak to three Airbnb reps before I got to the bottom of this. The glitch does now appear to have been fixed, but it's always a good idea to double or triple check the new price whenever you make an alteration to a booking on Airbnb.
