First Live Q&A with Donna Boyer, Director of Product

Hello everyone,

I am pleased to share some very exciting news with you. We will be hosting our first Live Q&A session, exclusively here in the Community Center on Monday, June 19th at 12pm PST (San Francisco time).

[To make sure you are aware in your different times zones: 3pm EST (New York time) / 8pm BST (London time) / 5am AEST (Sydney time-June 20th)]

You might be asking yourself, what is a Live Q&A? In simple words, a Live Q&A is a live online event in which members of our Community will have the opportunity to ask questions to an individual from Airbnb, basically like an interview. During the Live Q&A this person will try to answer as many questions as possible in the allocated time. Sounds exciting, no?

So, who will be our first guest for our Live Q&A? It’s going to be Donna Boyer 🙂

Donna

Donna is Director of Product at Airbnb where she leads the Product Team focused on host experience. In addition to being a Superhost, Donna is a mother of two and has spent over 20 years empowering product teams, leading product at Hyperion Solutions, Yahoo!, RMG Networks, Callaway Digital Arts and Blurb. Donna also serves on the board of Girls in Tech, a non-profit focused on the engagement, education and empowerment of girls and women who are passionate about technology.

The Live Q&A will be a global event across all our Communities, so if you see another member asking questions in a different language – don’t be surprised and enjoy the diversity of our Community. We’ll do our best to give you a provisional translation during the event, so that you are able to follow the discussion.

Take out your calendar and set a reminder to be part of our first Live Q&A session, which is going to take place on Monday, June 19th at 12pm PST (please see above for a guide on what time this is in different timezones). Don’t miss it! 🙂

The following link will bring you directly to our Live Thread. Please note that the Live Thread will only be open for questions when the Q&A starts.

Thank you,

Lizzie

Is there someway to indicate that one provides a "continental" or "light" breakfast? Right now it is just listed as whether or not (Yea or Nay) you include breakfast. If I say that I do provide breakfast, I don't want my guests to think they are getting a full-on, steak and eggs kind of repast. However, I do provide coffee, OJ, yogurt, fruit and bread of some sort (English muffin, baegle, or some such).

Hi all, I am in transit Monday and cannot attend. Here's a question from Hosting perspective. How to avoid low ratings when the issues have been explained in the description? Such as "firm bed"? Or if the ocean temperature is not to their liking. how can a host avoid the consequence of a rating under 4.5 by one or two guests?

thanks

anita

Agreed.  Some people will never be pleased and it does affect our ratings.  Possibly

an averaging out would be a better approach.

In case I can't make it... can someone please ask about adding a choice for pet fee?

I've seen others asking about this. I'd like to host guests with dogs since I'm located in an area where people go hiking and would like to bring along their pet. but it sure is more wear and cleaning!

Hosts need to really think carefully before giving a guest a 5 star rating.

It will help all hosts if other hosts are upfront and honest.

Thank you very much for giving us the opportunity of asking questions and the possibility of receiving the answers immediately.  I´m sure this is going to be a great experience and everybody is going to learn something new.

My suggestion will be to keep on doing these activities so, we as hosts or as guests, can solve problems easily.   I have to say that people in AIRBNB has solved all my problems and helped a lot in all type of questions I´ve had until now.

I´ll be happy to be part of this new activity. Thank you again.!!!

Love reading your post here @Maria-Del-Pilar0. 🙂

We are really excited to host the first Live Q&A in the Community Center, so we hope this will be the first of many and we get some great questions answered along the way.

Looking forward to seeing your question(s) on Monday.

Thanks,

Lizzie

Airbnb should make a easier to report small loses/damages that host encounter with guests.  They should have a link where we can report these loses in order to get reimbursed from the Deposit.  I had a couple that broke a mirror worth about $25 and did'nt have a clue as to how to get reinbursed from the deposit.  Having to call Airbnb with so much going on is a big problem.

Hello @Peter-And-Lucy0,

In your area, I believe it will be 5am (on Tues 20th) your time. I know this is a little early, but I still hope you can join in. Perhaps if you have a laptop you could follow from your bed with a nice cup of tea. 🙂

Thanks,

Lizzie
