FYI Portland, OR Hosts - Fines are Coming!

This recently popped up on my newsfeed:  http://katu.com/news/local/city-of-portland-to-begin-issuing-citations-for-short-term-rental-violati...

TL;DR

Beginning Friday, March 31, the City of Portland will be able to issue citations to those violating short-term rental requirements. The city says ASTR violators will be issued citations ranging from $1,000 to $5,000, depending on the offence.

Make sure you're in compliance!

Wondering who has been fined and what their experience has been. I'm just beginning this airbnb journey.

I've heard that there are people searching the site (airbnb) to turn unlicensed people in, but no one with direct experience on the "fined" end.

Linda - There are a few threads here about this - check around. But a quick recap: I was one of the people replying a few months ago indicating that I got fined, around April or May. It was unfortunate because I did all constuction permitting by the books and wanted to get the permit but got some weird and ambiguous advice from City staff. I guess it was all new to them at that time...but they made it sound like the new studio I just spent $75,000 on could only be rented 90 days max which of course was justnot gonig to pencil. Since I live on the property in the main house, I didn't think that was accurate so I delayed. Long story short, I did get fined, I paid it ($1,000) and moved on. I was told by the very nice City staff who handled my fine that I was turned in with a "big batch" of complaints turned in by any number of people -- even people not in Portland -- who are just airbnb haters who use software to crawl the web and look for unpermitted places to file complaints about. So anyone hedging, I would say, get the permit. It was $174 and took little time, and enabled me to go on and enjoy hosting, and make money the rest of the year. 🙂

Home claiming to be AirBnB

3722 SE 42nd AVE Portland, OR

Home is only two bedroom, guests are routingly parking across sidewalk

Doesn't appear that they are completely permitted. https://www.portlandmaps.com/detail/permits/3722-SE-42ND-AVE/R253018_did/ The white church van appeared this afternoon after two vehicles with WA plates left. I knocked on the door and "Kizick" told me they were renting out 'one room' to AirBnB to make the mortgage. Okay, two bedroom, 1.5 bathrooms, at least 4 guests arriving and he wants me to believe he's only renting out one room. Must be cozy. The names on Portlandmaps have not connected with anyone I've met related to this property.

 @Deborah312,

Pretty creepy Deborah. Reminds me of the Statsi police.

You might be happy in Communist China. They now have apps that pay you for tattling on your neighbors.
