Promoting your listing

Another contributor @Fred has posted a video of his listing on another platform and I would love to be able to do that here in my listing description.

A video can be such a draw card. I cannot understand why Airbnb can't see the merit in this instead of sending me completely stupid messages relating to my listing photos like this one.....

Too Dark.png

Of course it's too dark...it's night time you bloody clowns!!!

I have a wonderful video loop of the cottage and the area and there are a few of us that work here on promoting the Adelaide hills with videos like this one....

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3tzi1RlpZYc

These videos sell us, they sell what we as hosts offer, and why Airbnb can't offer us the facility to use them in our listing descriptions is beyond me!

Cheers.....Rob

That's right @Robin4 ,video sells well and we should ask Airbnb in every possible way to arrange finally this facility for us. Maybe the next Global Host Q&A would be a good moment to raise our voice? Some other platforms have this option already, why not Airbnb?

@Robin4 I had the same thing with several of my photos, one showing the lights on my back patio so of course it was a bit dark. The other was a photo of something in the foreground, with an out of focus background which Airbnb deemed overall to be "too blurry." However they never notified my that there was an issue with the pics, and they apparently dropped me in the search results until I fixed the pics.

My place had been quite full for the first 3 months, then all of the sudden my bookings stopped for about a month. I was travelling at the time and the warning on the photos wasn't showing up on the app so I was unaware. Now that I have fixed by photos I have apparently been freed from Airbnb jail, and the bookings have resumed. But I still have one month where I was pretty empty and it cost me a lot of money.

So even though that pic of the koala is legit, IF Airbnb says it is too dark it isn't worth the risk of leaving it up in my opinion.

@Kevin557, @Alex939Yeah you are right, they have captioned 9 of my 28 photos all with quite stupid comments! What the hell was I supposed to do....invite the Koala in for a tea and a chat to get he/she in just the right lighting environment?  It is in the right lighting environment, you can see it perfectly well doing what Koala's do!

And how about these........

Picture faults 2.png

Or this one....

Picture faults.png

These pictures convey exactly what they should and on the listing description appear sharper than 70% of what we see in various profiles!

Should all night time shots be banned or penalised because they show a night time scene??

For some dumb reason I thought we were supposed to be showing our product as the guest can expect to see it.....not as some glossy promo rag might spend a fortune on doctoring!

Why is it that this company absolutely specialises in dreaming up new ways to frustrate and make the lives of their 'Bread and Butter' difficult? Did somebody seriously think this was worth wasting time and money on when there are so many seriously broken aspects of this comapny that are crying out for attention!

@Kevin557, I don't know how long these idiotic prompts have been on show on my editing page but my booking rate has not slowed down. I am consistently getting my 9 bookings a month, so I don't think I need Airbnb to tell me what I should be fixing....there isn't anything broken on this end!!

Cheers.....Rob

@Robin4@Kevin557,

Offcourse the (stupid) captions are not seen by guests looking at the listing. But maybe Airbnb should stop treating us as childs by inventing annoying technical features, without any common sense involved.

Now that I have lost half the season..I am livid. Pictures that have been posted for 2 years are now considered blurry. I also was unaware and received no notification that my listings were not showing up in search results

Re: Your Youtube video

@Robin4, it makes me sick to see a german car driving on the left side of the street.

@Ute42, makes me sick seeing any car driving on the right side of the street.

There is a natural law that things should subscribe to in life....and I can't help it if Europe got it wrong!

Hey Ute, tell me some of us aren't wasting our time! Is that all you noticed...that the Audi is a right hand drive???

Didn't you take in what a wonderful way to spend a day that is....how much beauty there is to living this life we are so lucky to be a part of!

Cheers.....Rob

@Robin4

"Europe got it wrong" ????

It took You decades to change from the inch-mess that You had to

the metric system. When will You move Your traffic to the right

(the correct) side of the street?

This left side driving in the video disturbed me so much, that I

forgot about the loftover footage of that film.

Okay @Robin4 & @Ute42.

Cars aside... left or right..... the need to have some lighting individuality is an important one. Thanks for raising the options @Robin4@Kevin557 your story is a terrible one! If Airbnb is going to undertake an administraton block on your photos, as basic business, emails and app notifications must be the minimum correspondence, otherwise the veto is, well, so dictatorial.

Maybe some of this Airbnb authoritarian action could be redirected to profile images. Now that would get everyone happy with blocks on guests and hosts who don’t use their facial image.

you only have to see how many times the profile photo image issues are raised by hosts, to know it’s not going away....

Wow ... that would be creative and progressive!

PS... I like the idea of using some night shots to show my lighting around the pool etc, and a video could also do this..

🙂

Hi @Cathie19 ,

I'm disturbed to read all this. My top picture in the listing ist a night-picture of the grill cottage that I have and that is selling well. Take a look. Am I now moved down in search result bc this picture is too dark?

There are so many issues that need to be fixed at airbnb, this is none of them.

Hi @Ute42.

Just did some searches on my IPad ( not PC) for Bayern, Germany and also  MItterfels.

Okay, initially couldn’t see it...

BAYERN GERMANY search shows over 300 places.

- they list a few for Munich first. (can see more with the tab)

- followed by Nuremberg (can see more with the tab)

- followed by other areas

- there you are #34.

MITTEREFELS

Three initial filters = 4 bedrooms, family entire place = not visible!

then under MItterfels, no guest number or filters  = there you are #3.

then add 10 guests = 9th!

10 guest’s, 4 bedrooms, entire place= #7

add “family filter”  only two houses, not including yours. 🤭😱 especially as you mention infants in your ten max. You must allow families....

I would consider being able to tick the “family friendly” to be within the 3 - 5 listings. Have a play yourself.....

Hope this makes sense....

Cathie

@Cathie19 very reasonable approach, thumbs up! I will give it a try to see how my listing stays in the area. Thank you, Cathie!

.

Hi @Cathie19 ,

thanks for Your analysis. Actually there are thousands of listings in Bavaria. I think I show at #34 because recently I have rented one week for 3200 USD and the airbnb computer realises, that they can make money with my place.

I do not show in the family collection bc if I want to I have to tick "linens provided" and I did not do that.

Again thank You for Your time.
