Airbnb Banned Me for Filing a Discrimination Complaint – Who Else Has Been Unfairly Targeted?

Airbnb Banned Me for Filing a Discrimination Complaint – Who Else Has Been Unfairly Targeted?

After years of being a dedicated host, I was permanently banned from Airbnb—not because of bad hosting, violations, or guest complaints, but because I called out their corrupt support system.

Here’s what happened:

  • Months ago, I insulted a support ambassador out of frustration. Not my best moment, but it was a one-time incident.
  • Recently, I filed a formal discrimination complaint after experiencing consistent gaslighting from Airbnb support.
  • Their agents refused to remove a simple retaliatory review, despite it clearly violating their policies.
  • Shortly after filing my complaint, Airbnb suspended my business account—which had over 1,500 reviews since 2022.
  • They also suspended my personal account, which I’ve had since 2015 with no issues.
  • I created a new account under my husband's name, and within days, they shut that down too—after we generated over $10,000 in bookings this past weekend.
  • In total, over $100,000 in bookings have been canceled because of Airbnb’s retaliation.

I’m not the only one. I’ve seen countless hosts lose their businesses overnight because of Airbnb’s unchecked, outsourced, and unaccountable support team.

At this point, I want to explore a class-action lawsuit. Enough is enough. Airbnb needs to be held accountable for these unjust suspensions, which destroy livelihoods without due process.

If you or someone you know has experienced unfair account bans, wrongful suspensions, or retaliation from Airbnb support, please comment below or message me. We need to take action.

Airbnb cannot keep silencing hosts who rely on their platform. It’s time to fight back.

Sorry to hear that @Primo29 . How was Airbnb discriminating against you?

It's difficult to comment on the review you mention as we can't see it. What ratings did you have for your listings when Airbnb took them down?

As you know it's against Airbnb's T&C to create duplicate listings so I can understand why they took them down from your husbands account.

what do you want to achieve by this class action.

in your shoes I would focus on marketing your STR business through other platforms and direct bookings.

@Primo29

I’m sorry to hear about your situation.

However, I’m not entirely clear on why you consider gaslighting to be discriminatory. From what I’ve seen on social media, Airbnb often shuts down discussions without providing a clear reason, but I haven’t necessarily gotten the impression that this is discrimination.

I also frequently read that Airbnb refuses to remove reviews that hosts perceive as retaliatory, as this seems to be their official policy—at least according to their support team. The only strategy that sometimes works is to keep submitting requests multiple times until you get lucky with a different agent. In any case, it’s always important to post a professional response under a retaliatory review to provide context for future guests.

You really do need luck when dealing with Airbnb’s support team. The best approach is to always stay polite and understanding while being persistent—after all, you need them more than they need you.

Also, never put all your eggs in one basket. Listing on multiple platforms can help reduce your risk and give you more control over your business.

@Primo29  I'm having trouble understanding the connection between gaslighting and discrimination. Discrimination is when one is singled out based on a distinguishing characteristic like gender, skin color, ethnicity, age, etc.

Gaslighting isn't discrimination per se, unless you can prove it was done based on the definition above.

Failure to remove an alleged retaliatory review is an issue unto itself.

AirBnB support is notoriously bad, but it seems to be bad across the board, so calling it discrimination is a stretch. It's bad for everyone.

We don't know the ratings or the situation with the property/properties removed, so it's hard to come to a conclusion based on the facts.
