In England our government is introducing STR regulations which it is currently consulting on. @Jacqueline30
The consultation seeks views on proposed planning changes to help local areas to manage the further proliferation of short-term lets and support sustainable communities.
The new permitted development rights would provide flexibility where short-term lets are not a local issue, and allow for this flexibility to be removed where there is a local concern.
I don't have an issue with these regulations being introduced as many of our tourist resorts and key cities have communities being impacted by STRs with local key workers such as doctors, nurses and teachers being unable to find long term rented accommodation because much of the available rented accommodation has been changed over to STR use.
We don't need to employ lawyers as we have STR bodies in England that represent our views. Airbnb and other STR listing companies have also been lobbying around this.
I think it's important as STR owners that we don't just think about what is in our best interest as the business owner but also think about what is right for the communities in which we operate.
