LA Council to discuss eliminating the extended homesharing permit

The City Council’s Housing and Homelessness Committee will hold a hearing this Wednesday, December 4th to discuss changes to the STR ordinance that could affect your ability to host, including the elimination of the Extended Homesharing Permit. City officials need to hear from members of the LA host community like you to ensure residents can continue to share their homes to make ends meet.

Wednesday, December 4th- 1:30PM PST (arrival)
City Hall: John Ferraro Council Chamber: Room 340
200 North Main St., Los Angeles, CA 90012

As you know, short-term rentals support the local economy, provide significant tax revenue for the city, and enable many residents to afford to stay in their homes. The extended homesharing permit is an important resource that gives Angelenos the flexibility of sharing their home when needed, especially for those who rely on home sharing to remain in the city.

This is a critical moment for home sharing in LA. RSVP today at
The hearing starts at 2:30 PM but please arrive at 1:30 PM to ensure you have a seat in the main room.

The meeting audio can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j98WQt0TCBE (Note: NSFW audio). While no final decision was made during the meeting, discussions will continue. I strongly encourage everyone to listen to the audio from the Housing and Homelessness Committee of the LA City Council on 12/4/2024. The STR segment was paused and then resumed as a special meeting, so it's best to listen to the entire recording.

There are some deeply powerful and emotional testimonies shared throughout.
