New GST and Staycation Tax Credit
I am beyond confused….I am an under 30k host…. What I can’t figure out is:
- if I don’t have a GST number how does it impact me or my guest? Do I make less? Do they pay more? I don’t need a GST # but it will hurt my listings if they have to pay more.
- the staycation tax credit says the guest must have paid GST and it must be a line on the recipes. Does this mean a host must have a registered GST#. This is another disadvantage to a host maybe? people who know about the credit might seek out stays that qualify.
has anyone out there figured this all out yet? Help!!

You need to do, like all of us Canadians, talk to a tax accountant for legal professional advice. No one on this discussion board has the legal right to provide any advice.

My acct says after all he read he still thinks since I make under $30 g I don’t need to charge but do I still need a tax number? Did you find out if Airbnb will charge ppl already booked or is it just bookings after July1/2022.
Is it true they will block your calendar if you don’t get a tax number.Thnx.
