The elephant in the room....Failte HATES Airbnb, yet we now have to register through Failte !

What I am most concerned about is the fact that we now have to register through 'Failte', which is a government body , which has hated Airbnb and vowed to get rid of it for years! Does anybody else share my concerns?

@Gilly17 I believe the UK will also be requiring Airbnbs to register soon. I know Airbnb is supportive of this happening in the UK so perhaps they are in Ireland as well.

I am agree with having a register .....but not through a Government body which has vowed to get rid of Airbnb.

It seems sensible to me that your tourist board would run the registration system for STRs that's being introduced by the Irish government @Gilly17

I haven't seen them anywhere quoted as saying they 'hate' Airbnb.

As you know there's now a massive shortage of private long term rentals in Cork, Galway and Dublin partly due to the unrestricted growth of the STR market.

I attended a 'Failte' meeting about 10 years ago and it was made quite clear that they felt threatened by Airbnb and that they did not want them operating in Ireland.

I don't think you can see that as a representative view  of the Irish Goverment and The tourist board today.  @Gilly17

I don't have the confidence that you sweetly seem to have in them.

TRIS has just stopped the Government from introducing ill thought out legislation , which would have ruined tourism and caused huge collateral damage in the countryside ,to tens of thousands of small businesses

You are probably not aware that STR's are not the only factor causing the housing crisis. Ireland has very socialist laws, which favour the tenant unfairly, as a result a lot of people choose not to rent out their properties and these are sitting vacant.

I do know - that's why I said 'partly caused by' @Gilly17

I hardly call Fianna Fáil a socialist government 😁
