why do some properties have a service fee on top of the the nightly rate

@Debbie986 All properties have a service fee. Some hosts choose to include it in their rate and some choose to add it to their rate. The option for this is in your account settings.

Whichever route is chosen the guest pays pretty much the same and the host gets pretty much the same dependant on VAT rates.
