Adjusting Price/Unusual situation

Hello,

I am completely new to hosting.  I have a house that can comfortably sleep 8, but I've added a $40/pp surcharge for each person staying for groups over 4.  My first inquiry is a film crew that would like to take two weekends to shoot a film here!  I am excited about the prospect, but also nervous.  There will be a crew of at least 15 people that will be moving lots of my things around.   Not sure how many of them will actually be trying to sleep here.  One of the weekends was not on the schedule, which means my kids and I will be displaced.  Should I increase the base price ($199/night), and what should I charge as a deposit fee?

Many thanks for any advice!

Film crew is a whole different ball game. Usually crews do their best at taking care of your home when they are in there and shooting. That part should be fine. You should increase the cleaning fee since there will be so many people in and out. My home was used for commercial shoots but I did not go through AirBnB for that. I had a specific contract. You should definitely increase your price for these types of requests. Generally, house locations charge $1,000/day or more for film crews.

Have you inquired what KIND of film they would like to make?  I've heard of crews renting out houses to film some... um, unsavory things you may not want filmed in your home...

I know I wouldn't be OK with a film crew taking over my home for ANY film.

I made the mistake of just charging my regular rate to a film crew and pretty much regret it now. Having a dozen people in my apartment (as nice and professional as they are) is a bit overwhelming and just not worth the little money I charge. For me to do it again I would charge 5 times or more to make it worth it.

This is their last weekend filming here and I wish I could cancel but... The show must go on. Again, great people but, I just didn't charge enough to be "quiet on the set" and so disrupted.

That sounds more of an event. Did you listed yours as event? If not, they'll them as what they do is considered an event and charge them the increase price. We wee surprised for our camper we had 4 people wanted to shooting a film there but turns out there were over 20 people of films and not including the actors...so yeah. Better go with charge for the day and increased cleaning and increased bill usage.

Film crews try to book Airbnb listings to get cheap locations. There are agencies that can represent you in the negotiations. You need a contract that is tailored to film shoots. I had a production company approach me for a dating show on the Lifetime network. I turned it over to an agency here in LA. In the meantime someone else booked the day the film company had wanted. I'm really not interested in pissing off my neighbors by hosting film shoots.

Think it through very carefully. A film crew will feel they own your place as a location for the day. It will be incredibly stressful and don't expect the place to be left as they found it.

As another host has mentioned - what type of film?
