Airbnb refused to cover the cost of Fire Brigade fee

Hi guys,

Could anyone share some experience or solution with this situation.

The guest stayed at my apartment and she has triggered the Central Smoke Alarm System. The Fire Brigade attended to the apartment. The guest refused to pay for the cost of $4,000 which I received the Bill from the Body Corporation after 8 weeks.

I have informed Airbnb on the same day the guest caused the incident.

Airbnb is now refused to cover the cost saying it’s not physical damage and is not within their policy.

They told me to chase this with the guest myself and they could assist??? I personally don’t think there’s any hope here as she has refused to pay for the cost from the beginning.

Has anyone been in similar situations and how did you handle it?

Because this kind of thing could happen to any host at anytime.

Please send me a private email if you prefer

Thanks heaps

Unfortunately like many insurance type policies you will find inclusion and exclusions. Even Airbnb itself recommend host should make sure they also take out their own specialist insurance because of the many areas not covered by the guarantee.

Is this sort of guest action covered by your specialist home insurance for STR's? @Stay-Casa---Antony0

If not, you may need to take the guest to your country's version of small claims court. It will help if they live in your country.
