BETA: Guests pay additional 7% per night and get a full refund if they cancel up to 24 hours before

I participated in it. I had guest who cancelled his booking one week before check-in. Then I found out that Airbnb did not apply the Beta 7% more charge for  free cancellation with this booking while had it. The price was $450 per night for the entire house. Airibnb added $4.75 into it. It should be $31.50 for 7%. I did not find it out after the cancellation. So Airbnb got the fee but 0 refund for me as a host. I called two times and was told that they would call me back. But they did not do so and never received an email to explain it.

Airbnb should have a track # when a host calls or have a dispute.

I've heard about it but it is not clear who gets this 7% and who pays the refund to the guest. Host or Airbnb? I've seen another thread about it yesterday and the host was also confused.

It would be logical if the guest pays 7% more to Airbnb and then cancels, then Airbnb refund the guest and the host gets paid. In this scenario Airbnb is the travel insurer.

Aibnb's idea is that host gets 7% more for the booking and gets 0 refund when the booking is cancelled. I was OK to try it, although now I cancelled this option. My issue is that Airbnb did not apply this 7% to the price while used this for the cancellation from this guest. I just like Airbnb to explain it to me. There were several times the calculations from charges from Airbnb were not correct. Since it was not the first time. I like to make sure it will not happen again.

I just don't understand... if I have strict cancellation policy why would I except 7% and risk to get 0 ?

Host should have less then 1/15 such bookings cancelled or he would be on the loss.

But.. if this thing will work properly one day, then hosts with flexible cancellation policies will switch to strict to get 7% more 🙂  They have nothing to lose anyway

From what I understand, it is making guests pay 7% more to have a flexible cancellation policy (when booking places that normally have a strict cancellation policy).

If the guest doesn't cancel, the host will get 7% more than the normal payout from a booking with a strict cancellation.

Here's the kicker.............If the guest cancels you get nothing.

Which is totally ridiculous........ I really wonder what ABB was thinking~~~

What good is 7% more when the guest can simply  just cancel and re-book at a lower rate with the strict cancellation once the dates open up again. (using the account of someone else in the group). And this is actually the best case scenario.

In reality, no host is ever really going to see that extra 7% in cash. It will be a virtual number that will become a last minute cancellation leaving the host with no payout and an empty listing.

The scheme is complete nonsense, seven percent extra for a potential complete loss of an Income (booking) where the guest gets a full refund is just not worth it in my estimation additionally taking into account Airbnb willingness to constantly drive prices down.

So you get $70 extra for a $1000 booking or zero if the guest decides to cancel.

I expect thirty percent extra for that facility.

Our labour and property have an economic value that Airbnb is constantly trying to ignore or minimise.

I have often speculated what Airbnb's T&C would look like if they actually owned the property there deriving a substantial income from, let me speculate the first T&C they would invoke would be, if you cancel a booking you pay a fee.

Watch this space…

you are right. I kicked it out. However, it shows on the top when I look at my reservations: " Beta  Welcome to your new reservation list". I do not know what it means. I need to call Airbnb again. Beta is the 7% Airbnb puts
