Can't change departure date

My guest wants to stay an additional day which is fine with me. We can't figure out how to change it in the system since he's already here. I've changed my settings so that the day is available and the minimum stay is 1 day. When we press change reservation it asks for the arrival date. When we try to end the actual arrival date, it says that's in the past and he can't do it. When we try to set arrive as his original departure date, it says we can't do it either. It seems like this is something that happens so I don't know why this is so hard.

He's going to try just making another reservation but I'm thinking he should be able to extend. What am I missing?

This is clearly broken. To work around it, send the guest a Special Offer (AIrBnB terminology) for just the one-night rate. That will avoid having AirBnB add on another cleaning fee, etc.
