Extenuating Circumstances Policy LOL

I booked a trip to Miami with my girls a month in advance. A few days before I am suppose to leave for Miami, I get a call that a family member was losing the battle against cancer and they are on their death bed. Like any normal human being I cancelled my flight and Airbnb stay to be with them.

I contacted the Airbnb support team telling them that I don't have documentation since this person is not dead, they are in their death bed. Their response was pretty much for me to wait for them to die then provide documentation, but even then it isn't guarenteed that I will get a refund because this was a not an extenuating circumstance. Not an extenuating circumstance? This was a situation that way beyond my control.

Let me ask you guys this, how many of you would still get onto a plane knowing that the last time you see your loved one is the last time you'll ever see them alive? I've lost a lot of money cancelling this trip but I figured losing my loved one was much more important than money. It is just unfortunate that with everything else that is going on, Airbnb has no compassion for my situation.

@Tina646

Airbnb has a list of what they consider "extenuating circumstances" for a refund. Unfortunetally serious illness of a family member (not being a member of the traveling group)  is not on the list. Airbnb CS reps have to act by the rules, it is not about compassion, although it is a sad situation. Maybe your travel insurrance can help ?

Best regards,
