Guest blocked the toilet with a Tbone steak bone

Hi all

We have been doing AirBNB for about 2 yesrs now and I am a Superhost. We have a bedroom that we airbnb out and have 2x single beds so we rent out as a shared room or you can book it as a private room. We have a guest currently who is Airbnbing the room as a private room. We came home one night to a blocked toilet and as this has happened before we called a plumber but he could not clear it and though it might be blocked at the stacker as we are in an apartment building. I called the body corporate and they organised their plumber onsite. They used a camera plumber as they thought they would need to check the whole pipe line in the building. It turned out they put the camera down our toilet and found a Tbone stuck. They managed to pri it loose with the camera. This is lucky as the next option was to rip out the toilet and this is stuck in concrete so would have been a big job.

What I am not sure of is should we charge her the whole bill for the plumber invoice which I beleive will be about $1000 ish. Or would we be able to claim of the airbnb insurance?

By the way I asked her if she did this and she admitted putting it in the toilet and flushing it.

OMG, wtf is wrong with people?!! do they lose their minds when they travel?

I would try to get her to pay for it, so you can avoid the pain of ABB "customer service", and hopefully you got her confession in the messages, and not verbally.

I have a cute sign on all my toilets about not flushing the wrong things.... but seriously, who needs to tell someone not to flush a giant, odd-shaped bone?!  When you look back at this, once you've been reimbursed, it will be funny, cos that title made me giggle, i imagined us making artwork with all the kooky "guest did~~~" topics.

@Katrina184 You have no choice but to claim from the guest. Aircover will only get involved if the guest refuses to pay. Even then Aircover may or may not pay I am afraid.

My husband worked at a retirement home/nursing home for 34+ years.  He could write a book about what gets willfully or accidentally disposed of.  Btw, he's found steak bones, rags, dentures, perfume bottles, lids from cans, grand kids toys, ad nauseum.  Lol

Not to be unsympathetic  we're  laughing our backsides off!

Charge them!

Ditto to what @Mike-And-Jane0 @said. Bill her in resolution center ( it may be under “report this guest”). If she doesn’t pay Airbnb will get involved. Refer to her message admitting she flushed it. (You’re lucky, a lot of people would lie)
