Guest locked out repeatedly

My husband and I have been hosting for about a year now and it seems every few guest we have manage to lock themselves out. The top lock requires a code and is the only thing that needs to be locked, but some guest like to lock the bottom too. We leave a key for them for that reason. That being said, guest are still locking themselves out on a regular bases. Some of the 2, 3, or even 4 times. We only live about 15-20 min away, but it can be a challenge to get over there to let them in. It’s especially difficult when it’s late at night and I have to wake up my baby to run into town because someone forgot the key. The final straw was having to wake up my sick baby to go out in a spring blizzard in the middle of the night. What would you suggest to help eliminate this issue? Do you just leave a hide-a-key?

Hi Ashley,

A basic phone video (maybe with graphics or subtitles) could help you with this problem.. In the past we've found videos recorded with a mobile phone (held on Landscape) and supplied to our Guests prior to Arrival can help them with Entry/Exit arrangments. Video can be supplied to them Privately and naturally no sensitive code material is shown in the vidoe.

The beauty of this is that your Guests are made conscious that there is an Entry/Exit system that is differenent than the normal and this is clear in their minds before Arrival. This system could help instead of having a kind of information overload scenario.. Another thing to rememeber upon Arrival.

A 2nd key store is fine as long as you take in mind that all previous Guests who have been shown the 2nd set of keys, could, technially access your property again...

Hi @Ashley602. I agree with @Cian7 @that videos or graphics sent prior to arrival can assist and creates a focus. You could also have a photo imaged instruction poster, attached to the back of the door. With a big “❌” over the lock you don’t want them to touch. A big “✅”  showing lock only this one please.

Plain and simple.

If you don't want guests to use the bottom lock, why not just disable it?

I'm with @Jessica-and-Henry0 on this, @Ashley602 . Had the same scenario here once we installed the keypad. Bottom lock could still be used. So we switched it out for a different handle that is (so far, fingers crossed) foolproof.
