Host is asking for £70 extra cleaning fee in cash

Just wanted to get other peoples opinions on this.

I am looking to bok a place to stay on the Amalfi cost next week.

I found this listing

https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/32806229?adults=2&toddlers=0&check_in=2019-04-22&check_out=2019-04-25&g...

But when I go to make the booking she is asking for an extra £70 cash cleaning fee.

This seems exsessive and a bit missleading as it should be included in the fees.

Whats your opinions?

Cheers

It's  really against the rules to ask for a cash payment for cleaning fee - it should really be included in the payment within the platform.

Taxes are allowed to be collected in cash on arrival as long as they are listed in advance.

The host is experienced, and part of the Airbnb interface allows to enter fees for cleaning making it transparent to a guest, so I'd discount host ignorance.

Well, it crops up from time to time, if you can be bothered to argue the point, you can report the listing to airbnb. I suppose at the very least now, you know in advance of the payment, if you think this place remains good value.

The host has a helper so perhaps the host has done it this way to give the cleaning fee payment to the helper directly. Airbnb changed the way helpers could be paid, so it's more onerous for the host to organise this - I'd think this is why the host has went down this route. Still ,it is irritating to a guest and against the house rules.

Of course, the host has one disadvantage - sometimes it's not always easy getting money off guests.

Hi @Paul75

A guest mentions this in a review on the hosts profile.

This is an outstanding apartment. Large, clean, comfy, and in a great location. If you can afford the high rent and additional 70euro cleaning fee (in cash, in addition to what you pay to airbnb), you will love it.

A cleaning fee isn't unusual, but asking for it in cash certainly is....

I woudn't book personally.

I think the host will find that guests strongly object to being asked for extra money in cash.  You can ask for your cleaning through via airbnb (we do).  It is not subject to commission.  Always a difficult moment to ask a guest for money.  So much easier to get it through Airbnb for both parties.
