Suspicious guest request

A recent guest request was for 40 days at full per night price by a college student. This seemed unusual.

We had multiple messages back and forth when her payment of over $3300. did not clear with airbnb.

She then tried multiple requests for the same time period in increments of 3 weeks.

These were also rejected by airbnb for non payment.

We searched her name on facebook and found she is a local college student with multiple foreign friends.

We are worried that we may be dealing with hackers. The booking was to begin today at 3 pm.

We have notified local police that we may have people show up expecting access to the apartment.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

Hi - not clear what you mean. Her bookings were declined due to lack of payment/credit. So how would the guest have details of your appartment etc? They only get your address once a booking is fully confirmed.

I doubt you are dealing with hackers however - more likely someone with bad credit - and nothing strange about a college student having lots of overseas friends.

Good to be cautious but I think it's a simple explanation: low or bad credit
