Unfairly penalized for host's cancellation of my booking

I was reimbursed only part ($93 out of $144) of the booking cost when the host cancelled the day before I was due to check in. There is absolutely no justification for Airbnb penalizing/ charging me for a cancellation by the host!! Furthermore, Airbnb makes it very difficult to resolve this issue directly online through their helpdesk.

I will do what it takes not only for this issue to be resolved ASAP, and am also considering option to make this outrageous policy - which amounts to a form of extortion - widely known, to other customers through social media and blog/ chat forums, and to company watchdogs like BBB. I'd appreciate advice from others, including other victims of this outrageous and indefensible conduct, as to how to have this issue quickly addressed and how to have this issue raised more widely.

Regards,

Leo

If the host cancelled, you should be reimbursed the full amount and there is no airbnb policy to the contrary.  The host however, will be penalized for a last minute cancellation.  If this is what happened, there must be an error.

When a guest cancels, the refund is per the host's cancellation policy and less airbnb charges.

You are entitled to a full refund of course. Contact ABB and let them know that the full amount hasn't been returned to you. It looks like a mistake. Get in touch with them via the website or see the numbers to their support at the front on this community page.

Good luck!

Contacts for BNB are in the first post here. Give them a call. Explain what happened - they should give you a full refund and voucher in compensation if the host not you, cancelled the booking.
